Starting January 2, 2026, a new California law — SB 729 — will require many insurance plans to begin covering fertility care, including IVF.
If you have a fully insured large-group plan (often through a large employer), you may soon have access to:
Fertility diagnosis and testing
Up to 3 egg retrievals
Unlimited embryo transfers from those retrievals, when medically appropriate
But not everyone is included. SB 729 does not apply to:
– Self-funded employer plans (common at large companies)
– CalPERS or state insurance plans
– Some religious employers
– Individual and small-group plans (these only have to offer coverage)
Even if the law goes into effect in January 2026, coverage won’t start until your plan renews — and for some, that may mean mid or late 2026.
At FSAC, we’re here to walk you through your options, your timeline, and what your insurance might already offer. 🙏🏼❤️
