Have you ever suffered WHIPLASH?
Do you suffer from tinnitus or vertigo?
From the International Tinnitus Journal:

"As part of the workup of whiplash injuries, the function of the TMJ and troubles of tonicity of the corresponding muscles are important elements for examination. Anomalies at this level can be implicated in the origin of associated tinnitus and vertigo. Accurate diagnosis leads to appropriate treatment and ultimate clearing of the symptoms."

Sleep or lack thereof, effects every inflammatory pathway we know to exist!

The importance can’t be underestimated!

The importance can’t be underestimated!

"Dr. Perlmutter, I'm sick and tired of you telling me I need to get more sleep. Every doctor tells me that, move on!"

Well, I'm glad they are telling you that, because it's critical to your health.

In 2013, a study out of England found that a week of sleep deprivation can alter the function of 711 genes, including those involved in stress, immunity, metabolism, and inflammation.

One choice can affect 700+ outcomes.

That's why I stress the importance of sleep so much. If one thing can impact this many outcomes, we should take it seriously.

Does sleep apnea look like early Alzheimer's disease in the brain? After looking at thousands of brain SPECT studies, it is very clear that sleep apnea causes the same type of damage see in Alzheimer's disease. If you snore loudly, stop breathing at night, or are tired during the day get assessed, and take it very serious if you have it. Read more about this in my newly revised book at www.changeyourbrainbook.com.

And there is always a chance that it can be corrected!

And there is always a chance that it can be corrected!

My life has been shaped by following the story that teeth tell us.

We rarely consider just how amazing our teeth are. They break food without themselves being broken, up to millions of times over the course of a lifetime; and they do it built from the very same raw materials as the foods they are breaking.

But left in your jawbone, will be the oldest footprint of your life left on planet earth. From the soil, we dig up the most ancient trace of our ancestors.

What do they tell us? Human teeth are not supposed to grow crooked.

Human teeth are in a state like no other before.

Do you have impacted wisdom teeth? Are your lower front teeth crooked or out of line? Do your uppers jut out over your lowers?.

It’s as if our teeth are too big to fit properly in our jaws, and there isn’t enough room in the back or front for them all. It just doesn’t make sense that such an otherwise well-designed system would be so ill-fitting.

So why don’t our teeth fit properly in the jaw? The short answer is not that our teeth are too large, but that our jaws are too small to fit them in.

In 2004 a Harvard study looked at hyraxes fed soft, cooked foods and tough, raw foods. Higher chewing strains resulted in more growth in the bone that anchors the teeth. He showed that the ultimate length of a jaw depends on the stress put on it during chewing.

Dental anthropologist Robert Corruccini has documented it in urban vs rural populations in humans, what we eat changes our jaw.

So is it just chewing pressure? Or have our diets changed in other ways?

The loss of fat-soluble vitamins from animal organs has been centrepiece of the human diet for all of our history.

These nutrients including vitamin D, and its co-factor vitamin K2, cause our bodies to absorb calcium, and place it into bones and teeth.

Fat soluble vitamins come from animal products such as organ meats, grass raised dairy, and eggs for example.

Our society needs to get back to traditional foods that help grow strong skeletal bones and teeth.

We need a healthcare system that identifies and redirects correct human dental development.

It’s how we heal our future.

Do you agree?

The work of Weston Price will go down in history as the most relevant and important work on Diet, Nutrition and lifestyle!

Teeth tell the human story in the most powerful ways.

As a society we have come to accept a variety of different dental issues that our children have as normal or genetically based.

In the 1930s a dentist went around the world with the idea that the modern diet was to blame for the sickly mouths he saw in his practice in the US.

He studied ancestral cultures all over the world and found people who ate their traditional diet.

He observed the human face is shrinking.

The narrowing of the face that occurs after a population has abandoned its native diet and embraced Western processed food continues to perplex the medical and dental establishments, which just can’t seem to make the connection between food and physical development.

He was very interested in diet and its effects on growth and development.

He studied groups of Inuit, Pacific Islanders, Indigenous Australians, New Zealand Maori, Swiss Highlanders and South American Indians and he made some very astute observations. Those not exposed to the “Western” diet, what he termed " the displacing foods of commerce", as children universally had broad, attractive faces and wide dental arches with beautifully aligned teeth and no tooth decay.

Within one generation of the parents and children consuming white flour, sugar and other nutrient-poor foods, the faces became narrower, the dental arches irregular with crowded teeth and they began to develop tooth decay.

The interesting thing was, in studying so many diverse cultures and diets he was able to pinpoint common factors in all the traditional diets that ensured that the children grew up strong and straight, maximising their genetic potential.

Every culture had adapted its diet over many hundreds of years to ensure that all of its people’s nutritional needs were being met.

The traditional diets were all rich in fat soluble vitamins.

Since his work was published we have proven how his observations actually work in the body.

Vitamin K2 depends on vitamins A and D for signalling, so all three vitamins are involved in the process of facial development.

These discoveries point to the important of preparation for pregnancy with nutrient-dense foods, in order to build up stores for the critical early weeks of fetal development. Adequate spacing of children allows a mother to replenish these stores before the next child.

Vitamin D which comes from sunlight, fatty rich animal foods is the central factor. Vitamin A comes from these foods, and also benefits from light through the eyes.

Vitamin K2 is bacterially derived from green leafy vegetables and our gut bacteria and exists in organ meats, fermented foods, and grass-raised dairy.

Teeth are the signpost on how to heal your body. If you’re interested in this story, I’ve summarised Dr. Price’s findings and how to eat for better dental health in my book ‘The Dental Diet’.

I’m optimistic we can shift these changes.

What do you think we must do to help next generations?
