This past week, Jason Katzman, National Sales Manager, Concordance Capital Equipment and Furnishings, and Andrew Forseth, Capital Equipment Business Development, along with the healthcare design community gathered in full force at the 2025 HCD Conference + Expo in Kansas City, MO. It was a four-day immersion in proven best practices, innovative products and the future of responsibly built healthcare environments.
This show is rooted in the principle of how healthcare facilities are built and designed which influences safety, operation, clinical outcomes and financial performance. It comprised over 85 educational sessions and keynotes, largest expo all yet and recognizing excellence through awards.
Key take-aways:
· Prioritize design that supports both the human and technical sides of care: e.g., patient comfort + cleanable surfaces, staff wellbeing + efficient layout.
· Engage stakeholders early and often: operations, clinical, facilities, even patients. The more voices at the table, the better the fit and performance.
· Consider adaptability: spaces that can evolve as care models change (e.g., from acute to ambulatory) will deliver better value over time.
· Use data and evidence: The best designs are grounded in research (evidence-based design) and metrics (outcomes, cost, utilization).
· Invest in the product ecosystem: Not just the big items (beds, panels), but furnishings, lighting, textiles, flooring — all of which influence the patient/crew experience and maintenance burden.
