Ikigai Wellness

Ikigai Wellness Offering gentle medicine for chronic pain, chronic illness and emotional support in Tigard, OR.

Amy Homer-Brown is a licensed acupuncturist in Portland, Oregon, born and raised on the beautiful island of Barbados. She has always been drawn to the art of medicine and healing and set out to become a doctor since childhood. However, she believed that there was more to medicine than medications and surgery and during her years as a medical student, sought more wholistic practices. Amy began her

medical career in 2008 as a doctor, obtaining an allopathic medical degree in 2014 in her home country, Barbados. After 12 months of working as a medical intern in a public hospital in Trinidad, Amy decided to pursue a degree in natural medicine instead of continuing on to a medical residency program. Her dream was to pursue and practice a form of medicine that complemented the body’s innate abilities of self-healing, viewed each person as an individual and shared her beliefs in the mind-body connection for healing. It was at NUNM in Portland, OR, where she found her home in Classical Chinese Medicine. Amy’s acupuncture style follows closely with Traditional Japanese techniques which are gentle and incredibly effective. Such techniques include gentle insertive needling, non-insertive needling, moxibustion and gentle bodywork such as sotai, myofascial release and cranialsacral therapy. Amy enjoys working with a diverse patient population with conditions such as acute and chronic pain, chronic illness (such as digestive conditions, Lyme disease, mold toxicity and neurological conditions) and the secondary stress, anxiety and depression that can result. Amy is not a licensed MD in the United States but enjoys using her medical knowledge in understanding her patients from a biomedical perspective, speaking and translating the Western language of medicine, and combining it with her knowledge of East Asian medicine. She is a national board-certified acupuncturist with the NCCAOM and Oregon Medical Board.

❔️FAQ: How big is the chamber?

Our HBOT chamber is a 40" FDA approved soft shell.

That means my broad-shouldered Hawaiian built 5' 11" husband fits comfortably with extra space above and around him even when sitting upright. PLUS I fit comfortably too!

Yes, we do HBOT sessions together. Two people fit comfortably here.

This cool guy is also a certified HBOT technician and runs all HBOT treatments in the clinic.

What questions do you have about the HBOT?

📢 INTRODUCING our 2nd gentle Japanese-style acupuncturist to the Ikigai Wellness team: Brian Tetz! 🎉

Like me, Brian utilizes insertive and non-insertive techniques for acupuncture and enjoys treating kids and adults alike!

☆ we are awaiting insurance to add Brian to our insurance panel contracts. Until then he will be accepting MVA/PIP and cash patients only. We are happy to provide a superbill to use towards your out of network benefits (should you have any).

Here is a bit about Brian in his own words:

Brian is a dedicated healer and practitioner of Japanese-style acupuncture, Chinese medicine, and mind-body wellness. He holds a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from the California Institute of Integral Studies and a Master of Oriental Medicine from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. With a passion for empowering people to be their best, Brian helps individuals break free from physical and emotional limitations to reclaim their vitality.

His approach is deeply rooted in understanding each person's unique constitution, using gentle, pain-free Kiiko Matsumoto-style acupuncture, shiatsu, and alternative non-needle methods for sensitive patients. Beyond acupuncture, Brian is a master practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Mental and Emotional Release® Therapy, guiding people to release the negative baggage that holds them back.

Brian specializes in treating pain, anxiety, depression, stress, and thyroid conditions, but his work extends beyond symptom relief—he helps his patients restore balance and rediscover their potential. He also has a passion for movement and strength, teaching others how to swing heavy clubs and maces to rebuild resilience, regain health, and get back to the adventures they love.

When he's not working with patients, Brian enjoys archery, video games, collecting fountain pens, swinging heavy clubs, and spending time in nature with family and friends. His mission is to help others move, heal, and thrive—both physically and mentally.

📆 Brian is available on Thursdays and Fridays for scheduling 》ikigaiwellness.janeapp.com《

Learning never stops.

Every year, I seek deep continuing education experiences that will support my practice and improve my skills as a clinician and equip me with tools to support my patients more.

New skills are coming to the clinic! Excuse my awkwardness as I work to find a way to gracefully weave them into my current assessment routines 😊

Did you know that acupuncturists go through a 4 year clinical masters or doctorate degree? And that 3 of those years are spent in the clinic?

Did you know we have 3-4 board exams to complete (depending on state requirements) in order to obtain our license?

Did you know that in Oregon, acupuncturists are licensed by the Oregon Medical Board who also licenses MDs?

Did you know we need a certain number of hours of continuing education to upkeep that license?

Have you seen or heard of HBOT before? Maybe at another clinic around town? Do you know what you should be looking for in an HBOT clinic?

If you're investigating HBOT at a clinic here are some questions you should be asking:
- Do you have an IBUM-certified HBOT technician and/or provider?
- Are HBOT treatment plans and oxygen protocols individualized?
- Speaking of oxygen, do you use added oxygen?
- Do you do follow ups and tweak my protocols, if I encounter an issue with my HBOT session?
- Do you have a certified safety director maintaining your chamber? (this is required for any clinic with a hyperbaric chamber in the US)

At Ikigai Wellness, we are IBUM-certified and functional medicine trained. Safety is our top priority and your treatment plans will always be individualized based on your medical history so that you have the best chance of long-lasting support for your health goals.

Did you know HBOT can help in the recovery of Long COVID?

Between 20-50% of people who had COVID-19 experience ongoing and long-lasting symptoms like fatigue, headaches, brain fog, and even anxiety and depression. The inflammation can not only linger, but also cause damage to the lung tissue and capillaries, which exchange oxygen and waste.

HBOT can play a big part in treatment for Long COVID by reducing the body’s inflammatory response, delivering oxygen to the brain and lung tissue, and even helping to regenerate capillaries. [1] Studies show significant improvement in overall physical health, especially cognitive function, in patients with Long COVID. These improvements have also been shown [2] to last even 1 year after HBOT treatments are completed.

Because symptoms and symptom severity vary widely, you should always receive a personalized treatment plan for safe effective use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
