Happy 2nd birthday to my baby boy, Theo. His homebirth story makes me smile for so many reasons. 🄰

Im so thankful I had such amazing care from my midwife team (peaceful beginnings / Lori Hedlund, Betty & Hannah), that we had capture the experience, and that my husband and daughter were together for it.

The following 40 days snuggled at home are still some of the most precious I’ve ever experienced. šŸ¤

I do still wish he waited for 40 weeks so he would have been a May baby and 10lbs (he was 9lb 14oz)… oh well šŸ˜†

As you prepare your space for welcoming a new baby, I love to help prepare YOU (and your partner!).

It is easy to feel like you’re drowning in the overload of information available to us via social media (and often contradicting info!)..

As your doula, my heart is to help you tune out the noise and focus on what really matters for you and your family; for your pregnancy, birth and your first few months of motherhood.ā˜ŗļø

Happy World Doula Week! šŸ¤

To me, being a doula is much more than a job… it’s a calling and an invitation into something much larger than myself. Supporting women and their partners in such vulnerable moments is an honor and privilege. To the mamas who choose to hire a doula, thank you. It is a joy to walk with you!

A theme I’ve been hearing recently is, ā€œI feel confident advocating for myself in labor - do I really need a doula?ā€

Being a doula is so much more than advocacy - it’s about holding space, offering comfort, and guiding families through every moment of the journey. It’s listening, supporting and nurturing with presence and intention in one of the most transformative moments in life.

In many cultures the role of a doula is a mother, sister or close friend. While I may not be family to you, I would love to hold space for you, advocate for you, and support you in a way that leaves you feeling seen, held and deeply cared for. šŸ¤

When you find out that the baby you’ve been dreaming about IS indeed a baby girl! 🄰

As a planner, finding out my baby’s gender was a no brainer when I was pregnant…But witnessing surprise gender births has been so so sweet!

Did you find out the gender of your babies? 🩵🩷

There is no shame in loving coffee in your daily rhythm! Many women are told not to drink any caffeine in pregnancy, but it can be totally okay to have a cup of coffee, if that’s something you enjoy. ā˜•ļø

Here’s what we know about caffeine intake in pregnancy:

-caffeine crosses the placenta, so baby’s caffeine levels can be similar to yours.
-the way your body eliminates caffeine from your blood stream slows down over the course of your pregnancy.
-keeping your caffeine intake under 200/250mg a day is shown to be the safest.

Where does that leave us? AIM for 1-2 cups a day (around 16oz max) of coffee, try to eat breakfast before coffee, and remember that coffee dehydrates you, so chasing it with water helps!

Like all things, chat with your provider and listen to YOUR body. If coffee makes you feel funny, skip it. 😊

Swipe for additional considerations about other sources of caffeine. āž”ļø

The only person who can decide if you experienced trauma in your birth is YOU.

No one else gets to decide if what happened to you was traumatic or not; not a dr, midwife, doula, partner, family member…etc. This is your story. How you feel matters. šŸ«¶šŸ»

As a doula, I cannot always stop trauma from happening, but part of the care I provide is being equipped for when those moments come. Providing resources, options, a listening ear, an understanding hug - to hold space and to advocate for you.

Trauma in birth happens, for moms and for dads. Knowing how to process through it makes all the difference. Find someone safe to talk through your birth story. You’re not alone. šŸ¤

That first latch feeling šŸ˜†

Two things I love about this photo:
1) mama is laid back in a comfortable position.
2)baby girl’s position is similar to those who do the ā€œbreast crawlā€. We are used to seeing babies cradled, but this is totally ok if mom feels supported. :)

Did the way your first latch felt surprise you?!

•Part III•

After only 4ish hours since labor began, her body was feeling the urge to push. Mama did an incredible job keeping her body relaxed and breathing throughout her entire labor. She had prepped so well for this moment!

The end of labor can feel overwhelming. It’s very common for women to begin to spiral or feel out of control as baby gets closer to being born; phrases like ā€œcan you just pull her out!?ā€, losing the rhythm / coping skills, ā€œI can’t do thisā€ā€¦ it’s all normal, and typically means baby is close. ā˜ŗļø

And she was! Not even 40 minutes after getting in the tub, baby girl was in her mama’s arms. 5 hour vbac, on her due date!!! Absolutely stunning to be apart of this special story. šŸ„²šŸ¤

Part II

After a NST confirmed that all was well, the plan was to wait an hour to see if labor would progress or if we should go home until it did, as she was at 2cm dilated and baby was station zero.

Good news, only an hour later she was at 4cm, so we were staying! 🄳

She had not slept much the night before, so laboring in bed and rotating sides regularly worked well for her. šŸ¤

The tub was being filled and labor quickly shifted in intensity… after a final attempt to empty her bladder, we reached a common moment of ā€œif you want to have your baby in the water, it’s time to think about getting inā€ā€¦ šŸ¤

•part I•

When labor began with her water breaking and meconium present, the plan to labor at home for as long as possible shifted. But thankfully we were headed to and we were met with peace, patience and trust that labor would progress soon… ✨

Kind words from a sweet client!! šŸ¤

Something I love about being a doula is seeing who I have the honor of serving and hearing HOW they found me! Each family is such a gift. ā˜ŗļø
