Becoming ADHD Child & Family Services

In the mental health profession, I find that we often spend more time discussing the symptoms and challenges that go along with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD), and we spend less time on the potential benefits. In my work with parents, I often repeat “wherever you focus your attention, you will see growth.”

When parents or children repeatedly hear words like “dysfunction” or “impairment” or “symptoms,” I worry that we define ADHD too narrowly. Or worse, we inadvertently sow seeds of hopelessness or shame. ADHD is complex, it is diverse, and for many people it is a daily part of their lives. There is a lot of potential beauty and awesomeness that can go along with ADHD. When we understand its complexity and look at it from a broader lens, I think we develop a greater sense of compassion and awe.

Our vision for ADHD Child & Family Services is to celebrate neurodiversity. We all benefit when more more out-of-the-box, spontaneous, curious, and passionate people are able to make meaningful contributions to our world. Our services are designed to help kids and families get the support they need, and discover strategies that help them do their thing the best way they can.
