During perimenopause, hormone levels can fluctuate significantly from day to day. Because of this variability, a single lab test may not always reflect what’s truly happening hormonally.

The North American Menopause Society notes that perimenopause is primarily a clinical diagnosis based on symptoms, since estrogen and FSH levels can vary widely during this transition (NAMS, 2023). Similarly, the Endocrine Society explains that hormone testing during perimenopause can be difficult to interpret because levels shift throughout the cycle.

This is why symptoms, history, and overall clinical context are often just as important as lab numbers when evaluating hormonal changes.

Beyond weight loss and blood sugar control, GLP-1 medications may also influence inflammation in the body.

Research suggests GLP-1 receptor agonists can reduce inflammatory signaling and improve metabolic pathways tied to chronic disease. A review in the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology notes that GLP-1 therapies may decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines and improve immune responses linked to metabolic health (Zhou et al., 2025). Harvard Health has also highlighted growing evidence that GLP-1 drugs may have broader anti-inflammatory effects beyond glucose control.

As research continues, it’s becoming clearer that metabolism, weight, and inflammation are closely connected.
