Our services are offered at MRPT in Timonium and offsite as requested. Our physical therapists use manual therapy approaches (massage, myofascial release, joint mobs, strain/counter strain, etc) in combination with exercise and education to achieve optimal outcomes. Feel, function, and look better while working one on one with a therapist/personal trainer, or in a group. We evaluate and treat orthopedic, neurologic, and vestibular patients. We offer assessments and running analysis and provide comprehensive training goals in our Performing Arts & Sports Medicine program. We also train the trainer for injury prevention and performance enhancement opportunities, and offer specialized care for the dancer/athlete's foot including orthotic fabrication and shoe fittings. We are a comprehensive ALS outpatient clinic. Achieve your rehabilitation or fitness goals in our warm water pool of 4-6 feet. . Whether standing or floating, the unique properties of water can allow for either an easier way to move or an advanced work out. Fundamentals of Pool is a great starting point for arthritis and chronic pain patients as well as post surgical patients. Advance thru fitness classes to Pool Pilates to spice up your work out routine. As a continuum of care exercise classes are taught by physical therapists and certified instructors. Begin your land exercise with the ultimate knowledge and necessities in the Fundamentals of Movement. Participate in Pilates mat, reformer, and pool classes. MRPT offers clinical affiliations for PT and PTA students thru University of Maryland, Baltimore County Community College, and others. Megan also teaches CEU courses for the health care professional e.g. Pilates for the PT. We also host CEU courses regularly.

Pointe Readiness Tests are useful for dancer’s of all styles as basic skills are assessed. Start with parent and student education, introduce the tests and desired outcomes, then assess 6 months later! Great for rehabbing dancers and dancers already on pointe.

Successful first DANCE SMART Club Meeting today! Thank you to Darby Pack, Director of Maryland Academy of Dance for being a supportive, directive, and inspiring co host! Virtual Clubees enjoyed conversation about pre pointe assessments being used for other populations as training guide, how to interpret results in relation to pronation and hallux valgus issues in young dancers, and how to manage. It was fun just to be together! Next meeting to discuss turns, turn progressions, etc. Bring questions, ideas, and share your dance!

Great performance in Baltimore and DC! These dancers take a beating and working with them was like wrestling alligators! I'm more sore than them, and I am sure I slept better than them! Quite nice to be able to see the show also between therapy sessions. Listening to Bach while watching breakers was a unique experience. The Hippodrome brings us wonderful opportunities, don't miss out! Mama Mia and Beautiful, Carol King's Story are next so get your tickets now and enjoy a brief escape.

The Fundamentals of Movement (FOM) is a method of mastering correct body mechanics for improved performance, injury prevention and/or rehabilitation. Megan Rich designed the FOM to include Alignment, Stability, Range of Motion of your joints, muscles and nervous system, Balance and Breath. Whether you are an elite dancer, gymnast, athlete, or someone who just wants to achieve peek performance or rehabilitating after injury, surgery or illness the FOM is your starting point. It is impossible to progress and achieve more difficult skills without mastering correct ex*****on of the Fundamentals at their basic level to the advanced level. Practicing the Fundamentals in your cross training or warm up will help you learn how to effectively approach advanced strengthening, sports and running drills, plyometrics, and functional activities. You will achieve your best and go beyond! At MRPT the physical therapists use the FOM in rehabilitation and offer Fundamentals of Movement classes on land (Wed 12:30) and in a warm water pool (Fri 9:00). Pilates mat and reformer classes (call for schedule) are formatted to include the FOM to extend the knowledge essential to successful enhanced body training. Come join us now and see what your best looks and feels like! Amanda Woodson

Orthotics & Beyond……...
Orthotics can be an integral part of improving symptoms like pain, inflammation, and tingling. They can also improve your performance while standing for work, running for sports, or hiking your favorite trails. The only way to know if you need an orthotic is going Beyond the store bought orthotic and seeking the advice of a skilled physical therapist who specializes in lower extremity mechanics, ankle and foot conditioning, balance, and the making or fitting of orthotics. MRPT's therapists are experts and will assess you mechanically for alignment and stability issues from the ground up to your head. We video and take pictures for your review. We will teach you how to improve those mechanics with a series of exercises that include stability exercises of your trunk, hips, knees, and ankles. We work specifically on the 26 joints of the foot, the muscles that are responsible for foot support and toe control, and the mobility of the nerves that supply the lower extremity. We correct issues that effect ideal weight shift from one foot to the other and advance balance exercises that help you perform better. Then we may prescribe an off the shelf orthotic, or a custom orthotic made from a casting of your foot. We will also suggest the best shoe for your activity level and assess new shoes to help you. Call for your hour evaluation and be sure to get what is right for you! written by Nause and Rich
