One of the most meaningful moments we see is when someone with keratoconus realizes they weren’t imagining things, and they weren’t out of options.

As one patient shared:

“Dr. Azman was determined to solve my blurry vision issue that other doctors kept brushing off. I finally felt like someone was really listening.”

Many people come to us after years of feeling discouraged. Not because they didn’t try, but because they were told this was as good as it gets. They adapted, lowered expectations, and learned to live with vision that felt “acceptable,” even when it made daily life harder.

Another patient described that turning point simply:

“I felt like all options were lost. I didn’t think it was possible, until I could finally see clearly again.”

What often surprises patients most isn’t just the improvement, but the experience of being heard and evaluated differently. When time is taken to understand why vision still feels compromised, new possibilities sometimes emerge, even after years of struggle.

At Keratoconus Specialists of Maryland, our goal is to help people understand what’s driving their visual experience and whether there’s a realistic path toward better quality vision.

If you’ve been told your lenses fit well and everything looks stable, yet your vision still doesn’t feel right, it may be worth asking a different set of questions.

Sometimes, hope begins with being heard.

Many people with keratoconus are surprised to learn that not all vision problems show up in a routine eye exam.

Standard testing does a great job checking things like corneal stability, lens fit, and visual acuity on a chart. But those tests don’t always explain why someone may still struggle with glare, halos, ghosting, poor night vision, or visual fatigue, even when everything looks “good” on paper.

That’s because some of the most disruptive vision issues in keratoconus are subtle and highly individualized. They can affect how light is processed inside the eye and how vision feels in real-world situations, not just how well someone reads letters on a chart.

This is why some patients are told everything looks fine, yet still know their vision isn’t where it should be.

At Keratoconus Specialists of Maryland, we take a closer look at how vision is being distorted, not just whether a lens fits or a prescription checks out. For many patients who feel they’ve reached a plateau, this deeper evaluation helps explain what’s been missing and whether additional improvement may be possible.

If you’ve ever felt your vision issues were hard to describe or even harder to measure, you’re not alone. Sometimes it’s not that nothing can be done, it’s that the right questions haven’t been asked yet.

If you have keratoconus and wear scleral lenses, but your vision still doesn’t feel right - this is important.

Many people are told their lenses fit perfectly, yet still struggle with glare, ghosting, double images, or night driving. That can be confusing and frustrating, especially when exams look “good” and nothing seems obviously wrong.

What often isn’t explained is that lens fit and vision quality are not the same thing.

Scleral lenses do an excellent job stabilizing the eye and improving comfort. But even with a great fit, subtle visual distortions can remain , the kind that affect how light is processed, especially in low-light or high-contrast situations.

That’s why some people feel stuck in a place of “it’s better, but not clear,” even after being told this is the best it can get.

At Keratoconus Specialists of Maryland, we regularly see patients who have reached this point. In many cases, once we understand why vision still feels compromised, there may be additional options to improve visual quality beyond what’s already been tried.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not imagining it — and it may be worth taking a closer look.

If you have keratoconus and wear scleral lenses, but your vision still isn’t right, this is important.”

Many people with keratoconus tell us the same thing:

“My scleral lenses fit well… but night driving is still difficult.”
“I still see glare, halos, or ghost images.”
“My vision is better than before, but it’s not truly clear.”

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

One of the most frustrating parts of keratoconus is being told everything looks “stable” or that your lenses fit well, yet your real-world vision still feels compromised, especially in low-light or high-contrast situations.

That’s because for many patients, the problem isn’t comfort or lens fit alone. It’s how light is actually being distorted as it travels through the eye. These subtle distortions can cause glare, double images, visual noise, and poor night vision, even when prescriptions and standard testing appear “good.”

This is often why patients hear, “This is the best it gets,” despite knowing something still isn’t right.

At Keratoconus Specialists of Maryland, we focus on identifying why vision still feels unstable or unclear in people with keratoconus who are already wearing specialty lenses, and whether there is another layer of correction that hasn’t yet been addressed.

If you’ve been told your lenses fit well but your vision still isn’t where it should be, it may be worth exploring whether more can be done.

If you’ve ever been told “𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐬,” please read this - 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆, 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒆.

We meet so many patients who feel stuck after seeing multiple doctors. They’re still dealing with:

👁️ Ghosting
👁️ Halos
👁️ Starbursts
👁️ Blurry or doubled street signs
👁️ Trouble driving at night
👁️ Unstable, “wobbly” vision

And in most cases… the problem isn’t that their keratoconus is getting worse.

It’s that their higher-order aberrations (HOAs) were never corrected - something traditional scleral lenses can’t fix on their own.

But there are advanced solutions that can dramatically improve clarity when standard lenses fail. Wavefront-guided designs, impression-based optics, and other custom technologies can take vision far beyond what many patients are told is “possible.”

One of our patients shares his story in the video below.
He had seen about 20 different specialists, tried every type of lens, and was still seeing only 20/200.

Today, he’s seeing 20/20, and he says it completely changed his life.

If you’re frustrated… discouraged… or if you’ve been told “there’s nothing more we can do,” please know:

✨ There ARE more options.
✨ You are NOT out of luck.
✨ And we can help.

Watch his story below. If it resonates, send us a message - we’re here to answer questions and help you understand what may still be possible for your vision.
