This week at Stella Maris, we celebrate our time-honored tradition of Mercy Spirit Week! While our values and mission are at the forefront of each day and serve as a guide to every action we take and every decision we make, during Mercy Spirit Week especially, we are reminded of our founding Sister of Mercy, Catherine McAuley, and her legacy in establishing the Sisters of Mercy along with their dedication to caring for those in need.

On Wednesday, we celebrated our Mercy Spirit Award nominees. Those selected consistently carry out our mission and exemplify our values of dignity, hospitality, justice, excellence, stewardship and prayer each and every day.

Today, on World Alzheimer’s Day, Stella Maris honors the millions of individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. This day is a powerful reminder to raise awareness, offer support and advocate for continued research and compassionate care. Let us remember not just those we’ve lost, but also those who live with the disease each day — with courage, dignity, and resilience. Together, we can work toward a world with more understanding, more hope and ultimately, a cure.

On Tuesday, Sherry and Diane from Maryland Flower and Foliage Company visited our campus engaging our residents in an interactive and educational afternoon full of beautiful floral arrangements.

September is National Pain Awareness Month. Pain can be caused by many different things from migraines, injury, chronic conditions, cancer to diabetes. Those who suffer from chronic pain are more at risk for depression, social isolation and falls. Home health disciplines like skilled nursing, physical and occupational therapy can all be part of a pain management program. If you experience pain, talk to your doctor and ask for a home health referral. We're here to help!
