Winter can amplify stress, low motivation, and negative thought patterns, but there are tools you can practice right now to support your mental health.

As shared by Brown University, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques can be helpful even outside of formal therapy. Simple practices like journaling your thoughts, reframing harsh self-talk, using breathing or relaxation techniques, and scheduling small, enjoyable activities can interrupt negative cycles and bring a greater sense of control and clarity.

CBT reminds us that thoughts are not facts. Learning to notice them, challenge them, and respond with more balanced thinking can make a real difference, especially during the winter months.

At the same time, it’s important to know when extra support is needed. If feelings of depression, hopelessness, major mood changes, or thoughts of self-harm arise, reaching out to a medical or mental health professional is essential.

Mental health care is not seasonal. With the right tools, connection, and support, it’s possible to care for your well-being year-round and find brighter moments even in the colder months.

If you or someone you love needs support, MHA Monmouth is here:

For psychiatric emergencies, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can also call or text the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988 for mental health support.

Everyone has good days and hard days with their mental health.

That's why we're so excited to share Mental Health America’s theme for 2026: More Good Days, Together. This reflects the heart of our mission: helping people have more good days by meeting them where they are, supporting them as whole people, and understanding that “good” is defined by their unique experience and goals.

At Mental Health America, we know that there is no health without mental health. 1 in 5 people experience a mental health condition each year — and 5 in 5 are managing their mental health every day.

This year’s theme encourages us all to reflect on what a “good” day looks like, both for ourselves and for our communities. Together, we can use that insight to connect people to the right support at the right time, and shape advocacy, education, and community engagement to make more good days possible for all.

Throughout the year, you’ll see this theme integrated across our initiatives, campaigns, and events – with resources available in both English and Spanish.

The path may look different for everyone, but we all deserve more good days, together. 🧡

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s words remind us that progress, especially when it comes to mental health, isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it. 💙

Today, we pay tribute to the life and enduring legacy of Dr. King. His teachings inspire us to amplify our voices and continue to fight against injustice and discrimination.

Mental Health America remains unwavering in our commitment to expanding access to critical services and promoting mental health and well-being for all people living in the U.S.

Important news: SAMHSA funding has been restored!

This morning, several news sources reported that the Administration is planning to reverse the termination of these critical grants, which support lifesaving addiction and mental health services in communities across the country. We just received confirmation from an MHA affiliate that their grant had been restored. This action will prevent life-threatening disruptions to care and support for millions of Americans, and reflects continued bipartisan support for behavioral health.

Mental Health America is grateful to the Administration, Congress, and all those who advocated for this restoration, including through Mental Health America’s Action Alert yesterday. Your voices matter, and your advocacy makes a difference.

We continue to urge Congress to protect bipartisan funding for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) in upcoming negotiations of the Labor-HHS appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2026. To keep the momentum going, let Congress know how important mental health and substance use funding is in your community and ask them to finalize the bill before the end of the month.

We have so much in store for 2026 because of this incredible night.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County’s 75th Anniversary Celebration at Rumson Country Club.

Your presence made the evening truly special as we reflected on 75 years of advocacy, education, and hope.

Together, we celebrated our honorees, Lori Jarck and Christine Moore, for their commitment to su***de education and prevention, and we honored everyone who continues to make mental health a community priority.

We’re grateful to each sponsor, guest, and supporter who helps us advance our mission of promoting mental wellness and access to care for all. Here’s to continuing this important work, because mental health matters.

If you didn’t get to the resolutions you set at the beginning of 2025, that’s okay. If you don’t make a life-changing resolution in January, that’s okay. If your goal is simply to make it to the next moment, that’s okay.

Whether you’re making resolutions, setting intentions, or just waiting for the new year to begin, change, growth, and healing all take time. It’s about the journey, not the destination.

Happy New Year, friends. ✨
