Parentification typically occurs when parents struggle with attachment, trauma, mental illness, substance abuse, emotional immaturity, or a lack of emotional, financial, or community support…

Parentification looks like many things, and the child may be a voluntary or involuntary participant. As a parentified child becomes an adult, their experiences can negatively impact their relationships and emotional and physical health. If you’ve experienced parentification, there are many things that you can do to overcome it. Consider these options:

It might help to acknowledge that you experienced parentification (regardless of what contributed to the development of this dynamic); it occurred, and it was toxic. In addition, identifying how parentification has negatively impacted your life might also be beneficial.

Happy Easter! As I listened to the sunrise service this morning, I was reminded that the first to see Jesus following his reserrection were women. So, ladies… we were truly the first to preach the gospel. God doesn’t discriminate. He didn’t provide a man to be with the women to guide them. He appeared to a group treated as property, treated as less than at the time (and sometimes still are).
Our father values us, and sends us out to give the good news of his return and love. We are chosen, made to be a co-laborer and helper to our spouse. Not to be beneath or above but beside. God means us to be our husband’s treasure, not his property or doormat.
You are worthy and to be praised for the creation God made you to be. Not to be abused or possessed but loved. On Easter, remember the good news of who he is and who he made you to be.
