Why don't we talk about it? Survivors of domestic violence have been shamed by their abusers and by society. We have been blamed for the actions of the men that abused us, but made a vow to protect us, we have been shamed by a society that questions us for staying as long as we did, rather than question the abuser about HIS behavior. Domestic violence and Breast Cancer share the same month to promote awareness. Yet, everywhere I look I see pink, and little acknowledgement of the purple ribbon that promotes awareness for survivors. I am not saying that women with breast cancer don't deserve the support, they most certainly do, but one in three women will be victims of domestic violence in their lifetime, while 1 in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Where is the outrage? Where are the concern and support so that a woman feels she has the support to leave, that she deserves respectful and loving treatment. Make my October purple. Help draw attention to domestic violence by reposting.
