Weight gain during the menopausal transition happens to almost everyone. So with that in mind, here are several natural tips to fight off unwanted weight gain during this time:
Strength / Resistance Training - One of the best things you can do is strength train. Whether using your own body weight, free weights, resistance bands, or nautilus equipment, strength training is absolutely key to keeping your body strong, your bones solid, and your weight controlled.
Get Your Steps In - Although it shouldn't be the only exercise you do, walking is super important as you get older. Aim for 10,000 steps a day when you can, and consider wearing a weighted vest for an even better impact on your bones.
Reduce stress - Short term periods of stress (like exercising, sauna, and cold plunging) can be amazing for your longevity and overall health. However, long term chronic stress can wreak havoc on your body. So how do you reduce stress? One tip is to learn to say NO. You don't have to say yes to every opportunity that presents itself or every person who wants something from you. One rule I'm going by in my life is, "If it's not a HELL YES, it's a NO."
Eat an Anti-Inflammatory Diet and Increase Your Protein Intake - One simple rule is to reduce the amount of ultra-processed foods you eat. Ultra-processed foods are foods that are so uber-processed that they look nothing like the plant or animal they originated from. For example, at one point a Tw***ie was a collection of various plants. But which ones? Who the heck knows because it's so processed that it doesn't resemble those plants at all anymore!
