A peek at a non-traditional OT session!

This particular kiddo was having trouble tolerating a stroll around the block with Mom-- an important and valued leisure activity! To make things more fun, we made a Dora The Explorer themed "map" of his neighborhood that would guide him all the way around the block and return safely to home. Dora, Boots, and The Map are all motivating characters and he was excited and eager to follow his own map to the secret treasure ✨

Not all therapy has to be traditional, sit-down table tasks. Leisure activities are just as important of an occupation as self care and motor skills. We had a blast with this!

We cannot believe that our first ever Summer Handwriting Workshop comes to a close tomorrow!

We have had such a blast working with these students to develop the foundational skills of handwriting needed to tackle the upcoming school year. These photos are from our K-2 group where we focused on letter size and alignment, formations, spacing, and fine motor skills necessary for legible handwriting. Our favorite quote of the week from a rising first grader: "I NEVER thought this would be so much fun!" :)

We hope to bring back handwriting workshop for many years to come. Thank you to all families who have trusted us to teach your child this week!

Toledo Friends!

I recently obtained my certification to teach a handwriting curriculum for elementary and middle school aged students (K-8). I am considering hosting a Handwriting Workshop this summer locally-- it would be a few weeks long for an hour each session, and would max out at 10 students per session.

Questions:
1- Please let me know If you, or a friend/family member would have interest in this for your child?

2- Any recommendations on a space for hosting this? I work in local school districts or in homes privately, so I do not have a brick-and-mortar clinic at this time. I am reaching out to the local library to see if this may be possible there.

Defying Odds Therapy is looking for a COTA to join our team! This position will currently be 1-2 days per week at a local public charter school. There is certainly room for growth to take on more clients as we grow as a practice. The schedule is very flexible as long as you have availability during school hours.

Alex is working on so many great skills with this bubble volcano activity! We are targeting controlled breathing techniques to help with self regulation… strengthening of oral motor muscles (cheeks, tongue, and lip closure), and body awareness by strategically positioning on the floor in a low kneel requiring core activation.

So proud of the hard work this kiddo puts forth in every session!
