This week we’re shining a spotlight on our Executive Director, Cathleen, in honor of Long-Term Care Administrators Week! 🌟 Because of her leadership and commitment to excellence, the Toledo community continues to be a place where compassion and quality care come together.
“My decision to pursue a career in healthcare administration was shaped by experiences early in my life. As the sixth of seven children, I grew up in a family where caring for others was not only encouraged but expected. As our aunts, uncles, and grandparents entered nursing homes, my siblings and I spent a great deal of time visiting them. These visits became an integral part of our lives and allowed us to develop meaningful relationships not only with our loved ones but also with the many residents who lived alongside them.
During these visits, we shared our individual talents with the residents, offering companionship, conversation, and moments of joy. What began as a responsibility guided by our parents quickly evolved into something much more meaningful. It fostered in me a deep sense of comfort and purpose in serving older adults and those living in long-term care environments. These experiences instilled an early understanding of the importance of dignity, connection, and compassion in the care of vulnerable populations.
While in high school, I continued this commitment through music. As a member of the choir, I regularly visited nursing homes to sing songs and seasonal carols. Witnessing the smiles and emotional connection these moments created reinforced my belief in the profound impact that human connection has on quality of life for residents.
These formative experiences shaped not only my passion for working with the elderly but also my commitment to improving the environments in which they live and receive care. They laid the foundation for my career in healthcare administration and my dedication to leading organizations that prioritize dignity, quality of life, and exceptional care for those we serve.”
