We often worry about what others think of us or what is being said about who we are. I was reminded yesterday that none of that really matters and was told a quote to help me remember that.

“Those who mind don’t matter but those who matter don’t mind.” 💗

Emotional intimacy begins with curiosity and asking questions.

If you want a close relationship with someone, you have to show interest in them as a person. Emotional intimacy happens when we are curious about someone and fully engaged in listening. Asking questions begins the process of building emotional intimacy.

There are 4 types of questions that help build emotional intimacy
1. Feeling questions (such as: When was the last time you felt excited? When is the last time you felt most at peace? When do you feel most connected with me?)
2. Interest questions (such as: What is something you are interested in right now? What is the biggest lesson you have learned in the past? What did you love doing as a kid?)
3. Future questions (such as: What is something you are working towards? What is something you want more if in your life? What is something you want less of in your life?)
4. Play questions (such as: What is something new you would want to do and try together? What would you spend the day doing if you had no other plans or obligations? What new hobby would you like to try?)

When people only speak about themselves, when they don't ask questions, and when they expect us to carry the conversation, emotional intimacy is blocked. The more genuine interest you show, the safer a person feels to open up and trust.

Do you find you meet people or are surrounded by people who ask you questions and are truly interested in getting to know you?

Your feelings are always valid however your behavior may not always be. It’s okay to feel what you feel but remember that you are accountable for what you do as a result of those feelings.
