This past week, Hollyn and I got to witness my sister and her husband welcome their first baby 🄹

This perfect girl arrived at 41 wks 5 days- gotta say we were very impatient for her to arrive since we had already been here for 2 weeks. Thankfully I was able to change our return flight to this week so we still had time to stay and help (and snuggle- obviously.) She was just so happy and cozy in there!

Birth Story

Friday night at 8 pm Sierra’s midwife inserted a cooks catheter (balloon) to help her dilate and hopefully kick start labor. Shortly after she arrived back home, the balloon fell out and contractions had begun. By 10:15 PM we were able to track the pattern of contractions and by 11:30 PM we were headed to the birth center.
At this point, hip squeezes and counter pressure were just not helpful but the Labor Tens Unit was a life changer!
By 2:45 AM Sierra was feeling the urge to push and at 3:48 AM she delivered her sweet baby girl. I was so honored to be able to catch my niece and hand her to her mommy and daddy with Hollyn watching 🄹

Hollyn wasn’t even phased šŸ˜† she pretty quickly fell asleep after she realized she wouldn’t be holding her cousin for a bit!

We made it home about 5 hours later where we all slept for a few hours.

I’ve been a part of many births but there is something extra special about being there for your sister 😭 she did so amazing and continues to rock this new mama thing!

We are excited to get back home to our boys after nearly 3 weeks of being away from them but we will miss our girl (and Sierra and Steven 😜) immensely until we get to see her again.

If you’re looking for a way to get your dates in but aren’t a huge fan of them, this recipe is the best! It’s said that dates can help your body prepare for labor but not everyone loves them.

Just fill the pitted date with peanut butter, *freeze*, coat in melted chocolate/a little coconut oil, sprinkle with sea salt, *freeze*, and ENJOY!

You can mess with the recipe and make it your own too. Store in the freezer or fridge until ready to eat.

What is your favorite way to eat dates?

Meredith did such a great job representing doulas today at the Promedica Perinatal Conference.

She explained the role of doulas, how we can work together with hospital staff to provide better birth outcomes, and what the new Medicaid coverage for doulas will mean for the future of our work.

2023 Recap 🄰

This year I focused on slowing down and spending more time at home with my family. These kids are only growing faster and I don’t want to miss it 🄹

I’m surprised to look back over the year and see how much I was still able to accomplish in my business even with the slow down. I’m incredibly thankful for the many sweet babies born and the many wonderful friends made in the process.

Cheers to 2024 and to all the babies, memories, and friendships to come!

Looking out of the door of my hut in Acholiland, northern Uganda, I could see a tree spreading its branches out underneath a cloudy sky. The red earth was wet, everything was green and growing, and cheeping chicks were trailing around after mother hens as roosters crowed. It was the rainy season.

Please hear my heart... this has to be said, heard and repeated....

šŸ“£DOULAS DO NOT EXPECT YOU TO HAVE A NATURAL OR UNMEDICATED BIRTH!šŸ“£

There is a false narrative that doulas expect all moms to potentially birth the same. This could not be farther from the truth and if your doula is making you feel this way?? Fire her.

We push against the negative birth culture that implies, "It's unnatural to birth naturally ( I mean...what sense does that even make really??), that there are only select few ways to birth safely, that you are crazy to trust your body". For GENERATIONS we have bought into this lie.

As doulas, we want you to be INFORMED, knowing the ins and out of birth and your options and to be completely supported throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period.

You, your baby and your pregnancy are unique. It is not suppose to look like anything but what you need it to.

Doulas support ALL Births....

\]What is the Purpose of Love Your Labor Doula Services?

Love Your Labor Doula Services was created by a mother (Morgan), with mothers in mind! After a less than favorable first birth experience, Morgan and her husband, decided to hire a doula for their second delivery. With the the doula supported birth of her second child, Morgan became passionate about advocating for women in labor and became a Certified Birth Doula with International Doula Institute shortly after. Morgan is also trained in Postpartum care for mothers and newborns. Morgan wants you to ā€œLOVE YOUR LABORā€. All Mommas deserve to have a pregnancy, labor and postpartum experience that they can look back on with no regrets. Mothers and their families NEED to feel loved, supported and respected during this momentous and sensitive time in their lives.

Morgan the Doula provides emotional, physical and educational support for all families during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period. (You deserve to know ALL of your options!) This support also empowers mothers to advocate for themselves. Mothers should have a say in every aspect of their birth experience and should have someone there who can support her and her partner.

Morgan the Doula does NOT take the place of your partner! She simply enhances your experience by working together with you and your partner to help create the best birth experience possible. (Dads need support, too!)

If you feel like you and your family could benefit from this incredible support, call or message today to schedule a free ā€œMeet and Greetā€ where you can meet Morgan and decide together if ā€œLove Your Labor Doula Servicesā€ would be a good fit for you.
