This week, Toledo City Council voted 12-0 to ban the sale of synthetic kratom products like 7-OH. This is a HUGE step forward in protecting our community from substances that are hundreds of times more powerful than morphine and were being sold right over the counter in v**e shops and gas stations.

Councilman Sam Melden said it best:
“This decision says something about who we are. A community that learns from experience, that prioritizes public health and safety, and that doesn’t wait for Columbus or Washington to fix local problems we can handle ourselves.”

When Councilman Melden got an email from a parent worried about his son buying 7-OH at a local v**e shop, he reached out to us. Together, we gathered information and shared what we were seeing at Team Recovery. Six months later, this law passed. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.

We’re grateful to serve people in recovery every day, but we’re also proud to stand up for change that helps prevent others from having to walk the same difficult path.

If you see 7-OH or synthetic kratom products still being sold or advertised, please report it to the local authorities, the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, or reach out to us and we’ll make sure it gets to the right people!

Thank you to Councilman Sam Melden, and everyone who stood up for what’s right. This is what community looks like!

The vote comes just weeks after the local health department issued a public health notice about kratom.

A fresh haircut can change how someone feels walking into a new chapter. When you’re in survival mode, things like self care can slip away.
