Medical residency and Cosmetic Science: Dakaud Patterson is taking an accelerated path that will allow her to complete the 30-credit-hour program in just one year, matching up with her residency program’s research year.

Professor Alision Wery said Dakaud Patterson’s first-of-its-kind pairing of surgery and cosmetic science is particularly inspiring.

“It’s a different approach and it’s a lot for her to balance, but I think it speaks to her dedication and her ambition,” said Wery, director of the cosmetic science and formulation design graduate program.

After three years in UToledo’s residency program, Dakaud Patterson has no doubt she’s in the right spot. Not only has Toledo given her the breadth of experience she wanted, but it’s also helped her zero in on cosmetic surgery as her preferred specialty — and provided her a unique opportunity to pursue her master’s degree in cosmetic science and formulation design.

Great news for Michigan residents: New students from Michigan beginning their undergraduate studies at UToledo in Fall 2026 will be offered in-state tuition and pay the same affordable tuition rate as Ohioans.

Whether they are heading to college straight from high school, transferring from another university or returning to finish their undergraduate degree, Michigan residents choosing to attend UToledo will automatically receive a scholarship to cover the out-of-state surcharge. No extra forms or special applications are required. The new Rockets will also be eligible for additional merit scholarships awarded by the university through the application process.

Congratulations to Dr. Gabriella Baki who was nominated by the US/Canada and elected by the IFSCC Council to be part of the IFSCC Praesidium as the IFSCC Science Chair for the next 3 years.

In this role, she is an integral part of this international team dedicated to advancing the field of cosmetic science, fostering innovation, and promoting international cooperation among cosmetic chemist societies and members.

The University of Toledo's College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences are seeing growing interest in its online Master’s in Cosmetic Science and Formulation Design. This unique major attracts students who want to blend science, creativity, and innovation to become leaders in the cosmetic and personal care industries.

"Mr. Holloway said several new academic programs attracted students to UT, including the neuroscience and radiation therapy undergraduate programs and a new master’s degree in cosmetic science and formulation design, all of which more than doubled the number of students enrolled in the programs from the previous year."
