Not all Pilates classes are created equally… and here’s why.

A little history first:
For decades, “Pilates” wasn’t a protected term. After Joseph Pilates passed away, the name became legally open for anyone to use—meaning studios everywhere could label almost anything as “Pilates,” regardless of training, lineage, or understanding of its principles.

This created a huge range in quality, depth, and safety.
Some classes stayed true to the method. Others drifted far, lost key principles, or skipped the foundational biomechanics that make Pilates so transformative.

At Yogaja, we’re committed to honoring that lineage and evolving it with modern movement science.
