One of the most important movement skills you can learn is the difference between moving your hips and moving your pelvis.

They are not the same thing.

Your hips are designed for mobility.
Your pelvis is designed to be a stable base that your spine and legs organize around.

When the pelvis stays relatively stable, your hip joints can do their job: squatting, lunging, hinging, rotating… without dumping load into your low back.

But many of us move the pelvis instead of the hips without realizing it. The pelvis tips, twists, or tucks to “fake” the movement… Often because EGO makes us want to look we’re doing more. Really it’s the joints that are meant to be stable end up doing the work.

At Yogaja we practice intentional movement:
• Stabilize the pelvis
• Move from the hips
• Add mobility without losing support

Because mobility without stability is just compensation.
And the goal isn’t just to move more… it’s to move more intelligently.

Pratipakṣa Bhāvanam means “cultivating the opposite.” When reactive thoughts arise, we do not suppress them. We consciously choose a steadier response. This is yoga as mental training. 🧠✨

FEBRUARY • CLOSING REFLECTION ✨
Vairāgya: What Shifted When You Softened

All month long, we’ve explored non-attachment—not as an idea to master, but as a practice to live into.
Loosening the grip.
Softening effort.
Staying present without clinging.

As February comes to a close, this week invites reflection—not on what you achieved, but on what may have quietly changed.

Looking back on the practice:
• Where did you notice less tension—physically, mentally, emotionally?
• When did you choose support over strain?
• Where did you respond differently than you might have before?
• What became easier when you stopped forcing an outcome?

Movement lens:
Over time, intelligent support creates trust.
Trust allows effort to soften.
And softness creates space for stability to emerge naturally.

Reflection:
Non-attachment doesn’t remove us from life.
It helps us meet life with more honesty, adaptability, and ease.

Journaling prompts to close the month:
• Where has my grip softened—even slightly?
• What am I carrying forward from this practice?
• What still feels tender or unfinished—and can I let that be okay?
• How has my relationship to control, effort, or expectation shifted?

Mantra:
I carry forward what supports me. I release what doesn’t.

There is no final destination with vairāgya—
only continued awareness, gentler effort, and a little more room to breathe.

By using reciprocal inhibition, we create mobility through muscle engagement instead of collapsing into passive structures.
