🧠 Fear of falling (FOF) is more than just a psychological barrier—it’s a key contributor and consequence of falls.

Physio-Pedia highlights that managing FOF should be a clinical priority. Effective strategies include:
✔ Addressing modifiable risk factors (e.g., reducing medications in collaboration with MDs)
✔ Prescribing targeted balance training
✔ Promoting self-efficacy in mobility

If you have new symptoms of dizziness, drowsiness, or balance due to a medication change, please be sure to tell your PTA/PT team at Balance and Mobility Therapy.

🧠💊 Falls aren’t just about strength and balance—sometimes the culprit is in the medicine cabinet.

As PTs, we can play a vital role in identifying possible risks. Medications like antidepressants and sedatives can increase fall risk due to side effects like dizziness or confusion.

📣 Here’s a possible conversation starter:
“Have you noticed any new dizziness, drowsiness, or balance changes since starting a medication?”

You can follow up with:
“Sometimes medications can increase fall risk. Would you be open to reviewing them with your physician?”

This simple question can open the door for patients to discuss medication concerns with their physician or pharmacist—another key step in fall prevention.
