CommunityCare Clinic

CCC is a completely free clinic providing primary healthcare to the greater Toledo community. The students work with licensed practitioners who volunteer.

We are staffed by volunteer students across the various fields at the University of Toledo. CCC is a student-run organization that operates free clinics which provide primary healthcare services for the uninsured and underinsured in the Greater Toledo community. By integrating medical, pharmacy, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, health education, and nutrition student teams, under the supervision of licensed providers, CCC creates a unique interprofessional environment that’s centered on increasing healthcare access to our patients. A wide array of patient services are provided, while enhancing student education and awareness of healthcare disparities in the region.

Flu season is upon us, and you know what that means: it’s time for your annual flu shot! 🥳 The CCC is partnering with Lucas County Health Department to provide influenza vaccines to patients at our clinic at NO cost on October 2nd, starting at 5:30 pm. Come by for a free flu shot and other preventative care — and stay healthy this fall! 💉

The CCC’s main clinic is easily accessible via TARTA thanks to the tireless efforts of past boards! Route 34 will take bus riders right across the street from our clinic at stop ID 1130. Happy Latino/e Heritage Month from both the CommunityCare Clinics and the Latino Medical Student Association! Wondering why we celebrate during the middle of the month? Today is not only the first day of Latino Heritage month: it also marks the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, followed by the independence of Mexico and Chile. While we acknowledge the hardships many Latinos face, particularly in medicine, we admire the courage to persevere in the face of systemic inequities. This month we reflect on the impact Latino Communities have had on art, science, and everything in between. This month is about more than recognition: it’s a time to uplift, celebrate, and appreciate the past, present, and what is to come.

LMSA at UTCOMLS continues to demonstrate this as they work to become an active chapter within the national organization and continue to help Latino communities.

The CCC is committed to providing healthcare to underserved populations in the Toledo area. Our clinics regularly serve the Latino population, and our volunteers include interpreters for both Spanish and Portuguese. If you’d like to get involved, don’t hesitate to reach out!

This fundraiser supports the efforts of both the American Medical Association at UT as well as the CCC. It’s almost our favorite part of the year: time to welcome new M1 representatives to our executive board! Serving as an M1 rep is a great way to gain experience in medicine outside of the classroom, train as an officer, learn about the clinics and services we provide, and even work on your own projects to improve patient health. It is an incredible opportunity to grow as a leader while directly serving patients who rely on the CCC — applications open on Friday, September 5th at 7 am and close on September 18th at 11:59 pm. Undergraduate, MSBS, Nursing, and PA students: we haven’t forgotten about you! Please join us on September 5th and 5 pm for our Fall Training and get involved at the CCC this year! General training will be followed by training for our Women’s & Reproductive Clinic for interested PA and Nursing students at 6:30 pm. We hope to see you there and at a clinic soon!

The CCC has been hard at work implementing our new lab services, courtesy of generous support from .to.heart.international! Our new point-of-care lab equipment will allow us to deliver faster, more precise care to our patients, shortening the time from appointment to treatment and strengthening our ability to provide free healthcare with dignity. We are so grateful for this opportunity!

For our final spotlight, please congratulate Dr. Alison Mascarenhas, who served as the CCC’s 2022-23 Director of Medical Procedures! She matched into Cook County Health’s Emergency Medicine Program in Illinois. We are so proud and excited to watch her succeed in her new journey!
