Weāre all so busy. Work, groceries, laundry, soccer practice. We take health for granted ā until we canāt.
Last night in our PICU, we met a two-month-old baby. Heād been home, eating and sleeping like every other newborn. Then his bowel spontaneously perforated. No fever. No warning. Just a baby in crisis.
Within minutes our PICU team had to sedate him, place a breathing tube, put him on a ventilator. Surgeons performed an emergency bedside procedure right there in his room.
Today? Heās stable. Heās fighting. Heās getting another chance.
It wrecked me. Because it could be any of us. Any of our babies.
Life doesnāt wait for a convenient time. It just happens.
So if you need permission: Cancel the thing. Leave the dishes. Put the phone down. Go hug your kids like itās the only thing on your to-do list today. Because it is.
Holding all of you and your littles close tonight.
Peace,
Mike (Pappas MD)
