Growing Well, LLC offers individual and couples counseling with a focus on parenthood life transitions in the family. Counseling is one component to caring for the whole person. Whether you're adjusting to adding to your family or deciding not to, having a difficult pregnancy or your birth did not go as planned. Perhaps you had expectations of parenthood [or parenting one more] that aren't turning out as you had hoped. Balancing work and family and an intimate relationship can be overwhelming. These are just a few of the challenges folks may encounter as their family grows and changes, and we are here to help! Together we can work to help you find a new normal, whatever that may be, we can discuss skills you can use to manage anxiety or depression. We can connect you to complementary practitioners if you opt for traditional or natural medicinal approaches, and we will gladly work with your existing providers to get you the best care possibIe. A little about Catharine McDonald, the founder of Growing Well: I graduated with my Master of Science in Community/Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro after earning my undergraduate degree in Family Studies and Psychology at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. Most recently I completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in S*x Therapy from The University of Michigan. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor in CT since 2010 and have advanced training in wellness counseling, trauma, grief, and perinatal and postpartum mental health. My work experiences include a trauma resource non-profit, residential trauma treatment, pastoral care and counseling at a Women's Hospital and cancer center, crisis and inpatient psychiatric care at a local hospital, disability evaluations, addictions case management, veterans assistance, and blogging about perinatal mental health.

September is NICU Awareness Month

This month, we honor the tiniest fighters—the premature and medically fragile infants in the NICU—their families, and the dedicated healthcare professionals who care for them.

NICU Awareness Month is about more than raising awareness. It’s about:
✨ Building community for families walking this journey
✨ Sharing stories of hope and resilience
✨ Providing resources and support for parents
✨ Advocating for research that saves lives

We know the NICU journey doesn’t end at discharge. The emotional impact can be lasting—for parents, siblings, and the whole family. We are here to support you through the challenges, the healing, and the hope.

🎶 “Are you ready for it?” isn’t just a lyric—it’s a question worth asking before family planning. 💕

Pre-conception counseling gives you the space to explore your hopes, your concerns, and your mental health—so when the time comes, you can answer with confidence. 🌸

Because preparing your mind and heart is just as important as preparing your body.

As part of our reproductive mental health practice, we help individuals and couples think through those important pre-conception discussions—so you don’t have to navigate them alone.

✨ Say yes to support. Say yes to you. ✨

Think of therapy as saying “yes” to yourself: to healing, to growth, and to building a strong foundation for you and your family. 💕

Because your Self-Love Era is just as worthy of a standing ovation. 🎶✨

🌈 National Rainbow Baby Day – August 22 🌈

Today we celebrate the precious rainbow babies—those who are born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. These little miracles bring hope, healing, and light to families who have experienced the storm of loss.

💛 A rainbow baby doesn’t replace the child lost but reminds us that after the darkest storms, there is hope, love, and new beginnings.

To all parents, families, and caregivers: your journey, your grief, and your joy are seen, honored, and celebrated today.

It’s World Breastfeeding Week — a time to recognize the benefits of breastfeeding while also honoring the many paths to nourishing a baby.

Breastfeeding can be beautiful and bonding, but it’s not always possible or the right choice for every parent. And that’s okay. Choosing what works best for you and your baby is what truly matters. We want to remind you that your mental health is a valid factor to consider in the process, too!

✨ Fed is best.
However you feed, you know your baby best, it’s okay to bottle-feed, pump, supplement, or choose another way.
You are doing your best — and that is more than enough. 💛

At Growing Well Counseling, we support all feeding journeys with compassion and without judgment.

You are not your thoughts.

Your friendly therapists at Growing Well Counseling want to remind you that just because a thought enters your mind, it doesn’t mean it defines you or your worth.

If your thoughts are causing you stress, anxiety, or overwhelm, talking to a therapist might help. You deserve support, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Not every thought is true, no matter how convincing it feels in the moment.

In motherhood, our minds can be loud.
Loud with fears.
Loud with guilt.
Loud with worst-case scenarios.

Sometimes it sounds like:
“I’m messing them up.”
“They’d be better off without me.”
“I should be handling this better.”
Or, “What if something terrible happens?”

These thoughts can feel so real. So vivid.
But that doesn’t make them facts.

Intrusive thoughts, self-critical thoughts, catastrophic thoughts, they all stem from different places. Anxiety. Overwhelm. Burnout. The mental load of carrying too much for too long.

Your thoughts might say you’re failing. But the reality is, you’re often just unsupported, stretched thin, or navigating a hard season with an overworked nervous system.

You deserve help that understands this nuance.

At Momwell, our therapists specialize in maternal mental health. We help you understand the roots of those thoughts, how to respond to them, and how to soften the way you relate to yourself.

We offer virtual therapy across Canada and the U.S., with in-network coverage in many U.S. states and direct billing in Canada.
