Growing Well, LLC offers individual and couples counseling with a focus on parenthood life transitions in the family. Counseling is one component to caring for the whole person. Whether you're adjusting to adding to your family or deciding not to, having a difficult pregnancy or your birth did not go as planned. Perhaps you had expectations of parenthood [or parenting one more] that aren't turning out as you had hoped. Balancing work and family and an intimate relationship can be overwhelming. These are just a few of the challenges folks may encounter as their family grows and changes, and we are here to help! Together we can work to help you find a new normal, whatever that may be, we can discuss skills you can use to manage anxiety or depression. We can connect you to complementary practitioners if you opt for traditional or natural medicinal approaches, and we will gladly work with your existing providers to get you the best care possibIe. A little about Catharine McDonald, the founder of Growing Well: I graduated with my Master of Science in Community/Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro after earning my undergraduate degree in Family Studies and Psychology at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. Most recently I completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in S*x Therapy from The University of Michigan. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor in CT since 2010 and have advanced training in wellness counseling, trauma, grief, and perinatal and postpartum mental health. My work experiences include a trauma resource non-profit, residential trauma treatment, pastoral care and counseling at a Women's Hospital and cancer center, crisis and inpatient psychiatric care at a local hospital, disability evaluations, addictions case management, veterans assistance, and blogging about perinatal mental health.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re holding space for every woman, birthing person, and parent who forgets to schedule their own care while caring for everyone else.

Pregnancy, postpartum, or parenting — these seasons don’t pause your need for preventive care.
✨ Do your self-exams monthly.
✨ Schedule your screenings with a trusted provider.
✨ Reach out if you need trauma-informed, body-honoring referrals.

At Growing Well Counseling, we believe in whole-person reproductive mental health. That means your mind and your body both deserve compassion, attention, and care.

From Grief to Growth: Perinatal Loss and Bereavement
November 17, 2025 | 9 AM – 4 PM | Hamden, CT

This full-day workshop explores the many forms of perinatal loss—miscarriage, stillbirth, termination, and neonatal death—and the medical, emotional, and cultural factors that shape grief. Together, we’ll discuss how to prevent avoidable trauma, provide compassionate care, and create culturally sensitive support plans for bereaved parents.

This work is deeply personal and essential. I hope you’ll join me for a day of learning, reflection, and connection.

Today, we honor and remember the babies who are forever loved and deeply missed.

Pregnancy and infant loss can feel invisible—yet its impact is profound. Whether your loss happened recently or many years ago, your grief is valid, your story matters, and you are not alone.

At Growing Well Counseling, we hold space for the many emotions that accompany loss—love, sorrow, guilt, hope, and everything in between. We see you. We honor your journey. And we walk with you in remembrance today and always.

When we think of OCD, we often imagine repetitive cleaning or organizing—but for new parents, it can look very different.

Perinatal OCD can involve intrusive, distressing thoughts or mental images about harm coming to your baby—thoughts that can feel terrifying and isolating. These thoughts don’t mean you want them to happen. They’re symptoms of anxiety, not intent.

You are not alone.
You are not dangerous.
And you can get help.

Our clinicians are trained to identify and treat perinatal OCD with compassion and evidence-based care—helping parents find relief and peace of mind.

If you’re struggling, please reach out. Support and healing are possible.

Today we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day by acknowledging the deep roots of reproductive wisdom that existed long before colonization—and the ongoing harm that still impacts Indigenous birthing people.
Healing means listening, learning, and centering Indigenous sovereignty in birth and mental health.
