More than anything Yoga is a practice of consistently showing up for yourself. We create our day with the tools we connect with on the mat: balance, flexibility, strength, and a whole bunch of gratitude. It's not what the poses look like (especially true on social media...) but rather the mindful observation we put into the poses. If you haven't visited The Bloom Loft, well, you should. It's a wonderful little sanctuary. A mat and blocks are set up before you arrive, there's always hot tea, fresh fruit, and parking is super easy. If that isn't enough, Lou, The French on the Block is literally across the street for your after class croissant. Sounds like a pretty sweet Friday to me.

This is the time of year when flowers push up through the soil into the sunshine-and bloom. Honestly, it's not an easy task and I think we underestimate the hard below-the-surface work nature does. And we're no different. Our journey on the mat is an inward one where we explore the habits and the norms that we've created (or maybe they were created for us in our youth) and with deep observation we assess our path. Sure, things may be working but are they working at our highest potential? Even the question of WHAT is our highest potential is a complex one. We find the answers in the quiet stillness of the mind. That quiet place for me is flowing through the asanas on the mat. I've always said Yoga is an internal practice disguised as an external practice. It felt appropriate, on New Years Day, to establish some rules for the year, inspired by graphic artist Sister Corita Kent's "Immaculate Heart College Art Department Rules." So here are mine, with lessons carried forward from many origins, including Pat Pattison (rule 2), nature writer/philosopher (rule 8), poet and translator Coleman Barks (rule 10), yoga philosophy and Darby Orr (both always).

Our hearts are with our friend, longtime Bhavana Flow Yoga / Yoga Blend student, and fellow musician Angela Weigand and her children.

Husband, father, musician, athlete, and philanthropist Roy Weigand was a treasure and inspiration for the Burbank community and beyond.
