In our 50s (very late 50s in my case), consistency is more important than a perfect workout. Aging well and independent needs effort, whether it is to work out or to go to the doctor to treat neglect on our health.

And being busy is not an excuse. There is always time for a daily 10-30 min workout, (my workout today was at the office during lunch)

Today I worked on intense plyometrics first for about 20 minutes with about 10 minutes of isometrics and stretching for muscle endurance and mobility.

Stop procrastinating and Get Out and Get Fit!

Back at it after a 3-week experiment with no workouts.
The good: the body took a chance to recover and take a brake to heal small chronic ailments.
The bad: the older we get the faster our strength and functionality decays when we don't move.
The takeaways: 1) it's ok to take a brake, but no more than 7-10 days 2) we can lose in three weeks the gains of a few months, so consistency is key. Working out needs to be part of our lifestyle like eating or sleeping are. 3) our level of physical activity is one of the most critical factors that determine our quality of life later in life. The more, and more consistently we move, the better quality of life later in life.

So, get out and get moving. One day your old self will thank you.

Gym time and healthy smoothies with my little one.
What a great age to enjoy them. Need to squeeze every second of it. Before we know, they are out on their own.

Core strength is critical for a healthy back.

Planking in any of its variations should be included in every workout.

Discipline and consistency can be very boring, and at times may even feel ineffective.

But showing up, everyday, while giving your best, not only in fitness, but in everything you do in life is how we build a life of good health and abundance.

Whether we are going through a financial or emotional crisis, or we are in the best time of our lives, small consistent steps lead, eventually, to massive future results.

And the best time to start is.....today.

Get out and Get Fit!!

Here is another secret today that has me in the best shape of my life, in my 50s!

You know I go hard with my workouts (intensity is key!). But here's the real game-changer: about a third of my training is pure Pilates-type exercises and stretching magic.

I'm talking high-intensity strength and cardio sessions followed by slow, controlled movements and deep stretches.

And honestly? This combo has been my literal back pain miracle. 17 years ago, I had major back surgery – disc replacement and fusion. And thanks to this routine, I'm fully recovered, and even healed another troubled disc without surgery!

So, what's the deal with Pilates? It's all about low-impact moves that build core strength, flexibility, and killer posture.

We're talking deep breaths and super focused movements that fire up your "powerhouse" – those deep abs, lower back, hips, and glutes. Basically, it builds strength from the inside out!

Check out a few exercises enclosed, some for beginners and some for more advanced enthusiasts.

Go easy and slow and always listen to your body.

Remember, slow and steady wins the race. Focus on your form and breathe! Or, just hold those planks, and extended legs until you feel the burn.

Let's get out there, get fit, and have some fun with it!

Let’s talk about hip mobility—a game-changer for your fitness routine in 2025!

Hip mobility is one of the most overlooked yet essential components of physical fitness and aging well.

Your hips are the foundation of almost every movement your body makes—walking, running, squatting, bending, even just sitting.

When your hips are stiff or immobile, the rest of your body compensates, often leading to lower back pain, knee problems, and poor posture.

Here’s why hip mobility matters:

• Improved Range of Motion: Flexible hips allow for smoother, more efficient movement, reducing strain on surrounding joints and muscles.

• Injury Prevention: Tight hips create imbalances, forcing other parts of your body to take on extra stress. Mobility work helps prevent injuries, especially in the lower back and knees.

• Enhanced Athletic Performance: Whether you’re lifting weights, playing sports, or practicing martial arts, mobile hips provide the foundation for power, stability, and explosive movement.

• Aging Gracefully: Poor hip mobility is one of the top reasons people lose functional independence with age. Maintaining mobility ensures you stay active, pain-free, and vibrant for years to come.

Below are some of my favorite yoga poses to improve hip flexibility, mobility, and range of motion.

These exercises have been a cornerstone of my routine after every strength training session, and I can confidently say that my hip mobility and flexibility are better now than they were 30 years ago.

Take the challenge:

Commit to these poses daily—just 15 to 30 seconds on each side for each pose—and watch how your body transforms over the next year.

I promise you’ll feel like a whole new person!
