Celebrating New Years Eve doesn't have to stop just because someone close to you may be living with dementia. Everyone can still have loads of fun with a few adaptions to your traditional activities.

1. Reminisce Therapy - Take a trip down memory lane, look at old photos, watch old movies, and listen to music from their generation.

2. Make New Years Resolutions - Making resolutions is a time-honored tradition and it doesn't have to stop just because someone living with dementia may not remember. Have everyone make a personal resolution and discuss them and even try something new this year and do a group resolution.

3. Decorate with festive decor - Decorate with streamers, balloons, confetti, and hats. Maybe shy away from the noise makers as they can agitate individuals with dementia.

4. Make favorite foods - Have fun making your favorite foods for the New Year. Create a theme to your dishes, make all appetizers or make food from past decades. Have fun with it!

5. Alter the Countdown - Staying up until midnight may not be beneficial to an individual living with dementia as it may alter their routine and sleep pattern. So, celebrate the countdown earlier in the evening or even have midday New Years Party instead.
