Now we know the reasons women tear their ACLs more… What are the SOLUTIONS??

The common reasons women tear their ACLs more than men:
- Hormones
- Biomechanics
- Anatomical Differences
- Neuromuscular Activation Patterns
- Core Stability

🥼Female athletes need more research done in ACL injury prevention, however these steps are a promising start!

‼️Solutions:
1) Identify muscle imbalances and coordination deficits
2) Correct jumping and landing mechanics
3) Quad:Hamstring Ratio
4) Practice Game-Like Scenarios
5) Coaches need to know what to identify

🚨If adequate warmups can even slightly reduce the risk of ACL injury, why are we not implementing them more?

📣Coaches, please help your athletes by educating yourself on these warm up programs and what characteristics put your athletes at increased risk of ACL injury.

📣Athletes, make sure you are participating in a strength program geared TOWARDS your specific sport. This will help correct muscle imbalances and coordination problems.

ACL tears are DEVASTATING and can take a up to a year to bounce back after surgery. I’ve torn my ACL twice, and since then I’ve dedicated my time to educate women on how to reduce the risk of this season-ending injury.

📚 Women are up to 8x more likely to tear their ACL compared to men.

🏋️‍♀️ Knowing factors that predispose an athlete to ACL tears can help coaches and trainers improve their strength programs and warmup routine.

🧬 We cannot change genetics, however we can change the way we are preparing athletes for their sport. Let’s help our women athletes stay in the game longer.
