Let’s talk OSA and the FAA! 💤 ✈️

OSA has significant safety implications due to cognitive impairment secondary to the lack of restorative sleep. The manifestations of this disordered breathing present safety risks that include, but are not limited to, excessive daytime sleepiness, cardiac disrhythmia, sudden cardiac death, personality disturbances, refractory hypertension and cognitive impairment.

OSA is an AME Assisted Special Issuance - meaning the AME is granted the ability to approve the Initial and Recertification Special Issuance Certifcation.

What are the requirements for a Sleep Study?

Type 1 (in Lab)
Type 2 (Home)

What is required for Medical Certification?

1st Time Reporting

1.) Sleep Study
2.) Initial OSA Ststis Report
3.) CPAP Data (minimum of 30 days)
4.) OSA Airman Compliance Form

Recertification

1.) Recertification OSA Status Report
2.) CPAP Data (Last Year of Data)
3.) OSA Airman Compliance Form
