Dr. Mehmet Oz, M.D., heart surgeon and the star of the TV show “The Doctor OZ Show” stated “If you want to be healthy and live to 100, do Qigong.” Qigong (Chee Kung) is an ancient Chinese mind/body/breath coordination art. Clinical trials have shown that Qigong is helpful in the treatment of about 200 diseases, ranging from the common cold to cancer. For example, one scientific survey of aged practitioners revealed that they were in good health and appeared younger than a second group of non-practitioners. Their average blood pressure was normal and 93% had normal hearing and good memories. The non-practicing elders had a higher average blood pressure, 25% had hypertension, 50% had vision problems, 76% had hearing problems and 35% had lost their ability to work. After doing Qigong for 5 months, 52% of them recovered some of their working ability and made other physiological improvements. Qigong for health is not strenuous requires little coordination and flexibility. It is easier to learn and practice than Tai Chi, Yoga or Pilates. Qigong can be done lying, sitting or standing. Thus, it is ideal for seniors and the physically challenged. It can be done anywhere, at any time, and requires no special clothing or equipment. Qigong is practiced by millions of people worldwide.

Moderate Exercise Helps Lower Death Risk

Recent research conducted at The University of Sydney’s School of Public Health and published in The Lancet found that getting an hour of physical activity could help offset the health risks of prolonged sitting.
The study analyzed results from 16 previous studies, which included data from over 1 million people. The researchers separated the data into two groups based on their level of exercise: moderate exercise (about 30-60 minutes per day), or moderate-intense (more than an hour per day).
The researchers found that just 1-hour of moderate exercise could lower the risks of early death. It is noted that people that spend 8 hours a day sitting but are physically active have significantly lower risk of death than people who sit for hours, but are not physically active.
The research indicated that people who sit for prolonged periods and are inactive are 30-50 percent more likely to die early, and just 1 hour of physical exercise could help eliminate this risk.
Moderate exercise consists of anything from walking, bicycling, swimming, or even doing house/yard work.
More interesting activities are Qigong and Tai Chi which have many health benefits.
