President’s Update for December 2025
Dear Members,
As the President of the APTA AZ, I would like to wish everyone a happy and productive new year!
In the new year, we are gearing up to continue our advocacy efforts on behalf of our profession. One recent item that could adversely affect our profession is the proposed rule by the Department of Education to exclude Physical Therapy, as well as other health professions, from professional occupation designation. The implication of this rule, if adopted, is that it would severely limit Physical Therapy students' ability to obtain financial aid. Please contact your legislator and express your opposition to this proposal.
Additional Ongoing Advocacy Efforts
• State Level: We are working with AHCCCS to resolve the visit limit issue and collaborating with the licensing board on rule changes tied to SB1267.
• Payer Relations: We are focused on reducing prior authorization burdens and addressing post-payment audits.
• Federal Level (through APTA):
- Fixing the Medicare fee schedule following January’s payment cuts
- Establishing permanent telehealth access under Medicare
- Allowing PT businesses to utilize Locum Tenens.
- Supporting Pts’ ability to contract under Medicare privately
- Including PTs in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC)
Public Awareness
Our statewide campaign to raise awareness of physical therapy is in full swing. Many of you may have already seen or heard our public service announcements on TV and radio. These will soon be available on social media as well. You can find the campaigns on the APTA AZ website www.aptaaz.org under News.
Commitment to Inclusivity
Finally, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of standing united against bullying and bigotry in our profession and workplaces.
If you haven’t already, please consider ordering a Safe-Space decal to display at your workplace as a symbol of inclusivity and support. The APTA AZ Office has them in stock for Free and will send one to you.
