Most mothers are sent home with a 6-week check-up. Ayurveda prescribes 42 days of dedicated care — and up to 6-9 months of conscious recovery.

Ancient wisdom knew what modern medicine is only beginning to understand: the weeks after birth are setting up women’s health for decades.

For example one long-term cohort study showed: 4x higher risk of cardiovascular disease, higher endocrine disorders and more hospitalizations (2025, I.G.) And in other studies postpartum depression and anxiety is correlated with lack of support.

Ayurveda distinguishes 74 postpartum conditions. All of them preventable.

For 6-7 years I drove across LA, sitting with mothers in those tender early days after birth (or during birth).

I witnessed the power of ancient Ayurvedic (traditional) healing — and I also witnessed reality.

Mothers with two toddlers at their feet. No family nearby. Partners back at work after a week. The costs of living.

The same for ‘modern day’ doulas. Driving around. Deeply emphatic and wanting to help. Managing being on call 24/7.

So how can we merge the two realities?

That’s why I created a training that honors traditional techniques — while meeting modern mothers and doulas exactly where they are.

Because postpartum healing is needed. It just requires to be integrated in daily life.

So that the doula practice is sustainable. And the care for your clients as well.

Vastra Bandhana vs Bengkung Belly Binding

Two ancient traditions for postpartum care. Both beautiful. Similar benefits. But different in application.

Bengkung originates from Java, Indonesia (only later adopted in Malaysia) — a long, elaborate wrap covering hips to ribs, taking 15–20 minutes to apply. Traditionally worn for 44 days.

Vastra Bandhana comes from the Indian / Ayurvedic tradition — simpler application, shorter cloth, gentler pressure, and easy enough for a mother to apply herself.

For the modern postpartum doula I highly recommend Vastra Bandhana because:
✔ Easier to apply and to teach to client
✔ Client can maintain it independently at home
✔ Gentler fit — lower risk of complications (prolapse)
✔ Easier to incorporate into daily postpartum care

More about the benefits and those techniques can be found in my Ayurvedic Postpartum Care Training (link in bio).
Late bird until March 30.

Deze afgelopen 3 maanden
Zijn niet te vangen in woorden

Maar wat was je sterk, lieve mam

Daarom over jou,
Zachtheid is je aard
Een echte “Pisces”
Vergevingsgezind als geen ander
Altijd harmonie zoekend
Onze keuzes en weg altijd respecterend
Hoe moeilijk soms ook

Zelf bloemen zaaien, kweken, drogen

Notitie blokje klaar
Omdat we niks wilden vergeten

En zelfs op hele intense momenten
Was jouw humor die weer even
Voor een lichtpuntje zorgde

Wat knap lieve mam. Ik zal je enorm missen.

Thanks for featuring my Ayurvedic Postpartum Care Training.

Sometimes we need to let go of a dream job to break a pattern.

If I wanted to share Ayurvedic practices again - it had to be holistic on all levels.

So no deadlines, just following my own rhythm. No strategy and no coach, just that what had inspired me in building my own practice.

From birth imprints to the foundations of Ayurvedic postpartum healing (dravyaguna, Abyhanga, pottali sweda, Vastra Bandhana etc) adjusted to modern life.

So that for those who feel genuinely called, can build a sustainable practice without over complicating things.

After witnessing many births, one truth becomes clear:
interrupted birth can often be avoided.

Still, birth follows its own mystery—
a rhythm we can guide, but never control.

As doulas, we may not shape the sequence of events,
but we shape the emotional space in which they unfold.

Does the mother feel seen, respected, and informed?
Does she feel her voice matters?
Or does she feel powerless as things happen around her?

Even when birth takes an unexpected turn,
how she is held and honored shapes her bond with her baby—
her openness to skin-to-skin,
her ability to trust her instincts again.
Birth may not always go as planned,
but with presence, respect, and emotional safety,
even interruption doesn’t have to mean interrupted bonding.

And what if i would tell you that your own birth story (how you came into this world) can impact the way you show up as a doula.

Learn more about my doula program in bio that includes birth imprint practices so that we can show up with more awareness.

When a tear snuck out reading these messages
I have to share them ;)

It is the number 1 theme I have come across with my postpartum clients. Mothers need to feel acknowledged. When the partner just pauses and reflects for a moment on all she and her body do, everything will feel so much lighter.

So if you are a dad (or dad to be) it sometimes just takes two sentences to change a dynamic that feels out of balance and bring it back to balance.

Thank you dads 🙏😇🙏

Our Ayurvedic postpartum care training launches soon where we will share great tools to aid postpartum physiology like uterine involution.

My ultimate moment of being without thinking
I guess what people call “a flow state”

Is when I get to create a home (something with cancer rising perhaps ;))
Images of the space appear in my mind
And all the rest around it
Just happens

Not striving for anything
But letting the space emerge on its own

Moving away from perfection
And toward balance

The only type of cake I tend to eat
And more importantly know how to make 🫣
This time to share with our guests
That seem to turn into community
People sharing food and stories
From all over the world

“Where is the life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
The cycles of Heaven in twenty centuries
Bring us farther from God and nearer to Dust.”
T.S. Eliot “The Rock” (excerpt from Malidomas book - the healing wisdom of Africa)

“Alloparenting” a term I wasn’t familiar with. However 6,5 years working as a postpartum doula in Los Angeles I got the understanding of the deep lack of such “system”.

Grateful to keep learning and integrating my own experience of life. Something that would not have been possible without the tribes that keep the cycles of Heaven alive. No matter what resistance they face.

So that I now can come back to what I once was so passionate about - supporting mothers and their families.

Soon I am launching my Ayurvedic Postpartum Care Training. Send me a DM for more info.

My whole life I could
Embark on the next adventure
Looking for special places - power spots -
In Hawaiian the “Heiaus”
And very grateful for this special opportunity
To visit such a magical island

But the truth is
There is no feeling like tending to
Our own spot full of “Mana”
And seeing the roses, pineapple guave
White sage, lemon balm, blueberries, lemons etc
Blooming, blossoming and spreading

Central Portugal 💕

Our “lavadas” - basically small water streams that create a natural irrigation system are almost filling up all terraces. oasis.pt

In the past I would not be as excited for the rain. Now when all the springs, and (small) water falls on the land are running strongly i am almost ;) as excited as seeing the sun or even snow (at 45 min distance). ❄️
