After witnessing many births, one truth becomes clear:
interrupted birth can often be avoided.
Still, birth follows its own mystery—
a rhythm we can guide, but never control.
As doulas, we may not shape the sequence of events,
but we shape the emotional space in which they unfold.
Does the mother feel seen, respected, and informed?
Does she feel her voice matters?
Or does she feel powerless as things happen around her?
Even when birth takes an unexpected turn,
how she is held and honored shapes her bond with her baby—
her openness to skin-to-skin,
her ability to trust her instincts again.
Birth may not always go as planned,
but with presence, respect, and emotional safety,
even interruption doesn’t have to mean interrupted bonding.
And what if i would tell you that your own birth story (how you came into this world) can impact the way you show up as a doula.
