After witnessing many births, one truth becomes clear:
interrupted birth can often be avoided.

Still, birth follows its own mystery—
a rhythm we can guide, but never control.

As doulas, we may not shape the sequence of events,
but we shape the emotional space in which they unfold.

Does the mother feel seen, respected, and informed?
Does she feel her voice matters?
Or does she feel powerless as things happen around her?

Even when birth takes an unexpected turn,
how she is held and honored shapes her bond with her baby—
her openness to skin-to-skin,
her ability to trust her instincts again.
Birth may not always go as planned,
but with presence, respect, and emotional safety,
even interruption doesn’t have to mean interrupted bonding.

And what if i would tell you that your own birth story (how you came into this world) can impact the way you show up as a doula.

When a tear snuck out reading these messages
I have to share them ;)

It is the number 1 theme I have come across with my postpartum clients. Mothers need to feel acknowledged. When the partner just pauses and reflects for a moment on all she and her body do, everything will feel so much lighter.

So if you are a dad (or dad to be) it sometimes just takes two sentences to change a dynamic that feels out of balance and bring it back to balance.

Thank you dads 🙏😇🙏

Our Ayurvedic postpartum care training launches soon where we will share great tools to aid postpartum physiology like uterine involution.

My ultimate moment of being without thinking
I guess what people call “a flow state”

Is when I get to create a home (something with cancer rising perhaps ;))
Images of the space appear in my mind
And all the rest around it
Just happens

Not striving for anything
But letting the space emerge on its own

Moving away from perfection
And toward balance

The only type of cake I tend to eat
And more importantly know how to make 🫣
This time to share with our guests
That seem to turn into community
People sharing food and stories
From all over the world

“Where is the life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
The cycles of Heaven in twenty centuries
Bring us farther from God and nearer to Dust.”
T.S. Eliot “The Rock” (excerpt from Malidomas book - the healing wisdom of Africa)

“Alloparenting” a term I wasn’t familiar with. However 6,5 years working as a postpartum doula in Los Angeles I got the understanding of the deep lack of such “system”.

Grateful to keep learning and integrating my own experience of life. Something that would not have been possible without the tribes that keep the cycles of Heaven alive. No matter what resistance they face.

So that I now can come back to what I once was so passionate about - supporting mothers and their families.

Soon I am launching my Ayurvedic Postpartum Care Training. Send me a DM for more info.

My whole life I could
Embark on the next adventure
Looking for special places - power spots -
In Hawaiian the “Heiaus”
And very grateful for this special opportunity
To visit such a magical island

But the truth is
There is no feeling like tending to
Our own spot full of “Mana”
And seeing the roses, pineapple guave
White sage, lemon balm, blueberries, lemons etc
Blooming, blossoming and spreading

Central Portugal 💕

Our “lavadas” - basically small water streams that create a natural irrigation system are almost filling up all terraces. oasis.pt

In the past I would not be as excited for the rain. Now when all the springs, and (small) water falls on the land are running strongly i am almost ;) as excited as seeing the sun or even snow (at 45 min distance). ❄️

Dear LA community,

With the recent fires, many past clients have asked for resources to help new families navigate this time.

Since there has been an overwhelming amount of Google sheets and docs offering support (including an overabundance of newborn supplies) I’ve compiled a list of free resources including:

✨ Free childcare
✨ Breast milk donations
✨ Trauma support / pro bono therapy
✨ Free (virtual) prenatal & postpartum doula support
✨ Newborn supplies, toys & more thanks to a pediatrician

💛 I’m also offering 5 free prenatal or postpartum sessions for mothers affected by the fires—available for either group or 1:1 support, depending on demand.

🔗 Find the full list of resources in my bio. Please share this link with any families or mothers in need.

What is the foundational element for a smooth postpartum recovery?

Dogma’s are never good. But I haven’t found a tradition as effective in postpartum (digestive) healing as Ayurveda.

Many women struggle with constipation right after birth.
Ayurveda suggests a gradual integration of certain foods. No heavy foods like meat in the beginning.

Why is this? After childbirth, the body’s Agni (digestive fire) is weakened. Think of all the digestive organs to come back into its place.

There is a gradual process to build a mother’s Agni. Three key elements are:
1. Add warming spices: cumin, cardamom, ginger, turmeric, black pepper to everything she eats
2. Maintain a liquid diet until regular bowel movements occur
3. Eat when there are clear signs of hunger

Can’t wait to share this on November 23 with a nice group of postpartum doulas. Are you a doula and interested in learning more about Ayurveda and postpartum healing? Send me a DM. I have one last spot left! 🙏💕

Why do hospitals make it complicated for our clients to take the placenta home? I was always confused why there would be such a fuss of letting go of the placenta.

Until I saw this interview with and where they discuss that hospitals are selling placentas for at least $50.000 to companies. So what can you do if you give birth in the hospital?

This has helped my clients in the past:

* Even if you dont plan to encapsulate it, say that you want to encapsulate your placenta
* Sign a liability waiver (look in my bio)
* Once this is signed AND your placenta is tested negative for certain infectious diseases they can’t hold your placenta
* Request that pathology only takes small samples so you can save the rest
* Remind staff when you arrive and after birth that you want to keep your placenta (partner or doula can do this)

What does history tell us about obstetrics in the US?

If more women would know our history they would feel more confident to give birth in general? And perhaps give birth out of the system? Even though there is no right or wrong birth location - it all depends on set and setting.

Often the argument is used - the medical / science industry took over because so many babies and women were dying in childbirth.

We don’t talk about women’s lifestyle (corsets, hygiene etc) in the 1800s and not about how lucrative forceps were. The truth is - babies might have been born more frequently “alive” (not talking about the injuries that forceps caused). Did truly more mothers survive? The answer is no.

We don’t talk about the massive campaigns against midwife’s - stigmatizing them as old wives, dirty/unsanitary. There is no country like the US who can do this so well - perhaps therefore in Europe this trend never took on such extremes.

Until today the US has the lowest number of female doctors of all Western countries. Until today there are more mothers dying in childbirth here than in any other Western country. Until today most birth interventions take place here of all Western countries. Until today fear mongering is used to co-erce people in “life-saving treatments and injections” that actually violate their long term health. And bring the money to the same institutions as the ones who eradicated women from the medical / healing industry. Until today true healers are often positioned as airy-fairy, quacks etc.

It seems not that much has changed over the course of 300 years.

My mission is to change this and learn from different traditions and cultures including the Netherlands with low intervention and mortality rates. Soon more about my birth training that will be launched January 2025. If you want to join the list send me a DM?
