Today’s White House event on autism was filled with dangerous claims and misleading information that sends a confusing message to parents and expecting parents and does a disservice to autistic individuals.

We know autism is complex, highly variable and increasingly linked to genetics. Individualized plans, often involving a combination of developmental, behavioral, educational and social-relational strategies, can help improve outcomes that are meaningful to individuals and families. We also need and welcome additional investments in federally funded research to better support families of autistic children.

Families who have questions about their child’s medications, autism care plans or other health care should consult with their pediatrician or health care provider.

Vaccine update #2!
1. COVID vaccines are here for those with private insurances! Unfortunately, we do not know if we will be able to get COVID vaccines for Medicaid insurances. This depends on the upcoming ACIP meeting (9/18-19). Private insurance families may call tomorrow (9/15) to get this scheduled.
2. RSV vaccine will start on 10/1 for babies under 8 months. You can also call and schedule this vaccine. It is available for all insurance types.
3. Flu season is approaching! We have plenty of stock, so call and get this scheduled before influenza hits our area!

We have flu shots in stock for all insurance types. We will be offering Saturday morning flu shot clinics starting on 9/13, as well as giving them during normal clinic hours during the week.

Vaccine update!!!!
1. Flu vaccines: We are awaiting our full shipments of flu vaccine. We will likely start these in 2-3 weeks. We will send out a blast when ready to go!
2. Covid vaccines: We will do everything we can to get the Covid vaccine to all our patients whose parents would like to protect against the latest covid strain. The latest information is that children up to 18 should be able to get it after consulting with their child’s provider and we intend to follow these guidelines. We will continue to follow the American Academy of Pediatrics vaccine guidelines. We are seeing many covid + patients in clinic, it’s definitely here. We will also send out a blast once it’s available!
3. HPV vaccine: Did you know that you can start the HPV vaccine 2 dose series starting at 9 years of age? For those of you interested in getting this cancer preventing vaccine to your child while it’s available, you don’t have to wait until their 11th birthday.
4. Pertussis: We have seen cases of pertussis in our sick clinic. Pertussis can be very deadly in babies < 2 months. Please make sure your children and yourselves are up to date on this life saving vaccine.

We stand in full support of our autistic patients and their families. ❤️

New data from the CDC shows an increase in children with autism spectrum disorder. The numbers are increasing because of better and earlier screening, identification and access to autism evaluations. This is encouraging because when children are identified early, appropriate supports and services can be better tailored to their needs. Pediatricians want all children to thrive, including autistic children, and they are here to help families navigate screenings and diagnoses. Autistic children demonstrate behaviors that are different from some of their peers, but they are children who deserve love and belonging like all children.
