Immanuel Birth Co.

Immanuel Birth Co. We offer home birth, midwifery and well woman care that respects the individual and her needs. We view our work as a mission.

It is our joy to help bring children into the world and help families grow. We offer midwifery and well woman care that respects the individual and her needs. We believe pregnancy is a normal, healthy event in most cases. As such, women should have enough control over their labor and birth to follow their instincts, to experience little interference, and to recognize the amazing strength they demonstrate bringing new life into the world. We believe that a birth experience often empowers women and prepares them for the road ahead – the challenging role of parenting. We believe women are fully capable of researching options in childbirth and should be the main decision maker. We believe that each woman deserves respect and kindness during pregnancy, labor, birth and the following years.

Change is hard.

We have decided to accept the offer of a settlement from KDHE. This wasn't an easy decision to make as we believe that we followed all state regulations.

What exactly does this mean?

It means that we will not renew our birth center license in September 2025.

We will continue to offer all services that we currently offer (in our current location) EXCEPT for giving birth at the birth center.

We will offer home birth services.

We will continue to offer prenatal, postpartum and well-woman care in our office.

We will no longer contract with KanCare as of September 1, 2025.

We will continue to accept other insurances and self pay clients.

To be honest it has become more challenging to staff and operate a freestanding birth center with low reimbursement rates from insurances which results in low pay for staff. We were already considering this change by the end of 2025.

We can't begin to thank all of you enough for the ongoing support over the years (45 to be exact) and especially throughout this painful ordeal. We treasure and love the relationships we have bee able to develop over the years of serving families.

If you are a current client due after September 5, 2025 and would like to transfer your care to another provider, we are able to help you with that. It is likely that there will be a freestanding birth center in Lawrence by the end of 2025.

As always, you are welcome to call or message us if you have more questions.

The pre-hearing with KDHE today turned out to be mostly legal processes. Another pre-hearing is scheduled for February 19, 2025. As for now we are continuing to serve families at the birth center. Thank you ALL for your prayers and support.
