One of the most precious things we get is the ability to remember moments from the past. Memories act like a personal time capsule, letting you reflect on moments in your life that you want to go back to. For those going through grief, memories hold great significance and provide comfort. They let you revisit times when your loved one was with you, allowing you to feel their presence once more.

It's 2024 now, and the New Year can mean different things to different people. For many, it's a time for growth, change, and fresh motivation. But for those who've lost someone dear, the New Year isn't as positive. It often becomes a tough reminder. Every new year, we find ourselves counting the days, weeks, months, and years since we last talked to or hugged our person.

If you're grappling with this in the new year, we want you to know you're not alone, and we're here for you.

Day 8: Visit a Special Location

As the holidays quickly approach, we are reminded of the importance of cherishing our loved ones and the memories we have shared with them. There are certain places that hold a special place in our hearts, as they bring back fond memories of our loved ones. We encourage you to take a moment and visit one of these places today. It could be a park bench where you used to sit and talk for hours, a street that leads to your old family home, or a restaurant where you enjoyed many holiday meals together. These places may bring tears to your eyes, but they also bring back the joy of the holidays and the love of your dear one who is no longer with us. Let's honor their memory by reliving those precious moments and holding them close to our hearts.

The Twelve Days of Holiday Grief
Day 7: Buy or Make a Memorial Ornament

Ornaments are more than just decorations for your tree. They hold sentimental value and can serve as a beautiful tribute to your loved one. Whether it's a traditional ornament that reminds you of them, or a custom-made one that captures their essence, it's a special way to honor their life and legacy.

We encourage you to take some time this holiday season to either purchase an ornament that holds a special meaning to you and your loved one, or to create a unique memorial ornament that captures their spirit. It doesn't matter if it's big or small, store-bought or homemade, what matters is that it brings you a sense of peace and comfort as you hang it on your tree.

The Twelve Days of Holiday Grief
Day 6: Honor Your Loved One with a Simple Tradition

We know that the holidays can be a difficult time for those who have lost someone special. But by creating a new tradition in their memory, we can keep their spirit alive and celebrate their impact on our lives.

It doesn't have to be a grand gesture - even something as small as making their favorite dish for Christmas dinner can be a beautiful tribute. Or if you're feeling adventurous, you could take a trip to a place that held special meaning to that person. The possibilities are endless, and it's all about finding a way to honor and remember them in a way that feels meaningful to you.

So this holiday season, let's not only hold on to our cherished traditions, but also create new ones that keep the memory of our loved ones alive.
