InterHab names new Executive Director

InterHab, the resource network for Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), has named its new Executive Director.

InterHab’s Board of Directors announced that Meghan Shreve, who previously was InterHab’s Associate Director and has served in an interim Executive Director role since July, will permanently assume the Executive Director position beginning immediately.

As Associate Director, Shreve worked to advance InterHab’s legislative and policy initiatives, influence public policy and foster relationships with key stakeholders, including Kansas legislators. She was hired as InterHab’s Director of Education and Communications in 2018. In that role, she managed the development and implementation of educational and training programs, including the annual conference, and oversaw all communications efforts for the organization.

Shreve has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas.

“Meghan has worked tirelessly to build positive, lasting relationships with our member organizations, elected officials and other stakeholders during her years at InterHab,” said Patrick Gardner, CEO of COF Training Services and President of the InterHab Board of Directors. “She is always willing to reach out to state officials and representatives of other advocacy groups and collaborate with them to tackle the complex issues that face our service system. She has demonstrated strong leadership abilities and we are confident she will lead our organization well as we do vital work on behalf of the Kansans with disabilities we all serve.”

InterHab’s member organizations serve thousands of individuals with IDD across the state and form one of the leading advocacy networks in Kansas. InterHab works in partnership with its 40-plus member organizations to educate legislators and community leaders about the benefits of community inclusivity and advocate for the funding and resources to make community-based services possible.

This week, InterHab proudly joins with providers, families, and communities across Kansas to celebrate Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week. Each year, this special week gives us the opportunity to pause and express our deep gratitude to the thousands of DSPs who serve as the backbone of the intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) service system.

Direct Support Professionals are more than caregivers—they are advocates, mentors, and partners in helping people with IDD live full, meaningful lives. DSPs work tirelessly to support independence, encourage self-determination, and foster true belonging in communities across our state. Whether it’s assisting with daily living, supporting employment goals, or simply being a trusted presence, DSPs embody the values of dignity, respect, and compassion in everything they do.

We know the work is not easy. The responsibilities are great, the challenges are real, and yet every day DSPs show up with patience, skill, and heart. You are the reason individuals with IDD can thrive—not just to survive, but to pursue dreams, build relationships, and live with purpose.

At InterHab, we recognize that celebrating DSPs means more than words. It also means advocating for better pay, stronger workforce supports, and policies that value DSPs as the professionals they are. We remain steadfast in our commitment to elevate your voices and to ensure Kansas continues to invest in you—the people who make our system work.

To every Direct Support Professional across Kansas: thank you. Thank you for your commitment, your resilience, and your unwavering belief in the potential of the people you support. This week and every week, you deserve our recognition, our appreciation, and our continued advocacy.
