Join us in welcoming Azaria Wright to our cardiology team. As a board-certified adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, Azaria is dedicated to helping patients feel informed, supported and confident in their care.

“I want my patients to understand their condition and their treatment options,” Azaria says. “When people feel confident and informed, they’re better able to take an active role in their health.”

Azaria’s experience in the ICU, rapid response and acute stroke and pulmonary embolism teams has strengthened her ability to recognize subtle changes in a patient’s health. She brings this skill directly to her cardiac patients, responding quickly, explaining clearly and guiding care with a steady, patient-focused approach that helps individuals feel supported throughout their heart care journey.

Outside of work, Azaria enjoys baking with her nieces, going to the gym with her husband and spending time outdoors with her two dogs.

Welcoming Japan’s Future Nurses to St. Francis!

We were honored to welcome nursing students and their instructor from Fukuoka University School of Nursing in Japan as part of Washburn University Harmony Hines School of Nursing’s international exchange program.

During their visit, the students toured our emergency department, ICU, inpatient units and rehabilitation areas while meeting with nursing leaders and learning about patient care at St. Francis. They asked great questions about healthcare delivery in the U.S., including cultural care practices, nursing roles and patient documentation and communication.

While in Topeka, the students are exploring various healthcare organizations and experiencing our culture while they visit Washburn. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support their learning and for the global connection this program brings to our community.

During National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the importance of regular colorectal cancer screening. Experts estimate more than 158,000 new colorectal cancer cases will be diagnosed in 2026, underscoring the value of early detection.

Colorectal cancer is highly treatable when found early, and screening can detect precancerous polyps before they become serious. If you’re 45 or older, or have risk factors, consider talking with your provider about which screening option is right for you. Taking preventive steps today supports better health tomorrow.

Talk to your primary care provider about screening options. Need a primary care provider? Visit KUTopeka.com/Services/Primary-Care or call 1-833-463-9362 to schedule a new patient appointment.
