We love being able to support our staff through providing continuing 🎓 education! We recently sent Karina and Marcos to the American Society for Mohs Histotechnology 2025 Annual Conference where they were able to take part in educational 👩‍🏫 sessions on best practices and the latest developments in the field.
Histotechs 👩‍🔬 are a vitally important part of the Mohs Surgery process. They are skilled technicians who process the slides 🔬used to determine the amount of tissue removed during the Mohs micrographic surgical procedure used to treat skin cancer. 👨‍⚕️ Dr. Ricks only employs the best of the best, and ensures they always have access to the most advanced and up-to-date training and techniques, which is one of the many reasons we are able to achieve such excellent skin cancer surgery outcomes! ✨

Today is Actinic Keratosis Global Day!
Actinic Keratosis or AKs are precancerous growths caused by the ☀ sun or indoor tanning beds. AKs tend to develop on skin that has the most sun exposure such as face, ears, forearms, balding scalp, hands, neck, or lips. There are many non-surgical treatment options for AKs.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, so we thought we would share some information on the different types of skin cancer:
☀Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC): Most common, does not spread, but can continue to grow and cause an open, non-healing wound.
☀Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC): Less common, but incidence is increasing, has the potential to spread to other parts of the body if not treated, which can be deadly.
☀Melanoma: Least common, but incidence is increasing. Can be highly treatable if caught early, however some melanomas can be deadly.
