💜National Eating Disorders week is February 23rd - March 1st💜
It’s likely that we all know someone who has experienced, or is still struggling with an eating disorder💜
🪷These are serious, often invisible, and misunderstood mental health conditions that deserve awareness, understanding, and care. 🪷
Eating disorders are never a choice. They can take over a person’s life, consuming hours and affecting work, friendships, school, and everyday joys. They impact emotions, relationships, self-worth, and physical health. Recovery takes patience, support, and lots of small steps💜
If you’re struggling, you’re not alone, and it’s okay to reach out for help
This week is about shining a light on the realities of eating disorders:
🪷Educating ourselves about the harms and challenges they bring
🪷Breaking the stigma and silence that surrounds them
🪷Supporting early intervention
🪷Bringing hope to those who are struggling
Important facts to know:
🪷 Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses, but recovery and support are possible.
🪷 Eating disorders affect people of all genders, ages, races, and backgrounds
🪷They can lead to serious medical consequences, including heart problems, bone loss, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances
🪷With early intervention and proper treatment, recovery is possible
🪷Recovery takes time and patience. It is not linear, and setbacks are part of the process and not a failure.
Remember:
🪷 You are allowed to enjoy the foods you love without guilt, shame, or rules
🪷Asking for help doesn’t make you weak, it shows courage and strength
🪷Eating disorders aren’t just about food, they affect every part of life, from emotions to self-worth
🪷Healing is a journey, and taking it one step at a time matters. You are not alone in this
If you know someone who is struggling, reach out to them today, your support can make a real difference. 🪷
