“I came here 10 years ago thinking it was just a housekeeping job,” says Tanjie Kramer, Director of Lifestyle Enrichment for EverTrue Lutheran Home at Topton in Topton, PA. “I’ve always been outgoing. I’d stop and talk with everyone. One of the Lifestyle Enrichment team members said, ‘You’d be perfect for working in Lifestyle Enrichment!’ I took the jump from housekeeping to Lifestyle Enrichment, and I don’t regret it one bit.”

Today, Tanjie is one of many who have found success through a career in aging services. March is Careers in Aging Month, which highlights the opportunities in aging services.

Tanjie has grown with EverTrue, becoming a certified Activities Professional and Activities Director.

But, according to Tanjie, the most important qualifications aren’t listed on paper:
“Be caring. Be patient. Have a bubbly personality.”

Her days are filled with trivia, active games, trips and Diners Club lunches. But beneath all the fun, there lies a deeper purpose. “The real work is keeping the residents connected. Keeping their bodies moving and their minds stretching. Making sure no one feels alone.”

Residents of EverTrue Lutheran Home at Topton continue their mission of kindness in support of the Hackerman-Patz House, a Ronald McDonald–type hospitality home located on the campus of Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest.

What began as a project to assemble and deliver stuffed animals has grown! After touring the Hackerman-Patz House during their early deliveries, residents saw firsthand the continued need for donated supplies and decided to expand their efforts.

On March 16, residents personally delivered a bus load of donated goods to the Hackerman-Patz House. Items included blankets, personal care items, nonperishable food and essential paper products such as paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, cups and utensils.

The Hackerman-Patz House provides affordable, welcoming accommodations for families of patients receiving care, and it relies heavily on community support.

This initiative reflects EverTrue Lutheran Home at Topton’s long-standing relationship with Lehigh Valley Hospital and its deep commitment to serving the broader community.
“Our residents are excited and energized to make a meaningful difference for families facing medical challenges,” says Tanjie Kramer, Director of Lifestyle Enrichment.

It’s always Women’s History Month at EverTrue Lutheran Home at Topton! We are gearing up for special exhibit honoring Virginia “Ginny” Baer Ebersole who devoted her life to preserving the history of the former Lutheran Orphans’ Home, now EverTrue Lutheran Home at Topton.

Ginny, who resided in the Home as a child, was its historian, archivist and storyteller – carefully safeguarding photos and artifacts that captured the lives of generations of children.

Drawn from this treasured collection, EverTrue Lutheran Home at Topton will present the exhibit “Virginia Baer Ebersole: The Home Collection.”
