Are you struggling to stick with your goals or resolutions? This article is for you! 💡✨

The truth is, motivation can get us started… but it’s connection that helps us keep going. In our latest blog, we explore why so many resolutions fade after January — and what actually makes lasting change possible.

This morning, we heard updates from several subcommittees of the State Comptroller’s Healthcare Cabinet, including remarks from our President and CEO, Maria Coutant Skinner, LCSW.

As Co-Chair of the Mental Health Subcommittee, Maria shared reflections from a recent visit to Seattle, where she witnessed firsthand how a collaborative, compassionate approach can help resolve homelessness and encampments. She highlighted the impact of bringing together housing, behavioral health, law enforcement, public health, and people with lived experience—supported by strong investments in both transitional and long-term housing.

🌟 Her key takeaway was clear: housing is mental health, and lasting change requires bold, people-centered solutions.

👏 Shout-out to Kyle Fitzmaurice, McCall Harm Reduction Coordinator (right), who recently delivered an outstanding presentation with Carson Ferrara (left) of Liberation Programs, Inc. Together, they showcased the impact of deflection work in our communities at the 5th Annual Ohio Quick Response Team, Deflection, & Outreach Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio.

It’s a life-changing approach where first responders, social workers, and recovery support professionals connect individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges to community-based treatment and services—offering an alternative to arrest or inaction.

Our CLEAR team not only partners with Liberation Programs to make this possible, but also equips individuals and families with overdose prevention tools and helps create personalized recovery plans. In short, they make connection happen! 💙

Last night, our Mental Health Awareness Trainings were featured on FOX61! Our Director of Prevention Services Andrew Lyon, MPH, spoke with Reporter Solen Aref about the importance of not only talking about mental health, but being prepared to help someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.

Andrew says, "We have rising rates of anxiety, depression, isolation, loneliness...culturally we've never been very good at discussing mental health issues. Particularly, if we may be the ones suffering with mental health issues, it's understandably challenging to talk about that. And so we wanted to bring these trainings into McCall so that we can push them out into the community."
