Humming can stimulate the vagus nerve, which is a key part of the parasympathetic nervous system (responsible for relaxation and "rest and digest" functions).
Your vagus nerve is connected to your vocal cords, the muscles at the back of your throat and passes through your inner ear.
Humming requires you to control your breath and lengthen your exhale, which is a powerful way to engage the vagus nerve and promote a relaxed state.
Try this!
Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose for 3-4 seconds. Exhale for 6-8 seconds, making a gentle humming sound (like a buzzing bee) as you breathe out.
Set a timer for 1 minute and repeat this exercise until the timer goes off. 🎶
