💥Employee Spotlight: Hamilton Borden💥
https://www.macspharmacy.com/blog/employee-spotlight-hamilton-borden-pharmd/

When you meet Hamilton Borden, one of the first things you notice is his steady presence and genuine care for people. Though he’s only been with Mac’s Pharmacy Townsend for a few months, Hamilton brings more than 15 years of pharmacy experience, a heart for teaching, and a passion for helping patients live healthier, more independent lives. From coaching his kids’ sports teams to mentoring pharmacy students, Hamilton has always been someone who invests in people — and that’s exactly what makes him such a great fit for the Mac’s family.

How long have you been with Mac's Hometown Pharmacies ?
I’ve been at Mac’s Pharmacy Townsend for about 3 months now, but I’ve been in pharmacy for over 15 years. Before joining Mac’s, I spent my entire career at Blount Discount Pharmacy, where I helped grow their clinical programs, trained staff, and developed services like diabetes education, smoking cessation, and immunization clinics.

Can you tell us a little more about your education and.. the crazy fun twist?

I graduated from William Blount High School in 2006, where I played both football and track — linebacker on the football field, and shot put, discus, and javelin on the track team. Sports taught me a lot about discipline and teamwork, which I’ve carried into my professional life. After high school, I attended Lenore-Rhyne University before going on to earn my Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 2013.

A fun twist? Our current CEO, Morgan Honeycutt, was actually my “big brother” in Kappa Sigma during college — it’s been really special to reconnect here at Mac’s after all these years. I also went back later and earned my MBA from Tennessee Tech to strengthen my business and leadership skills.

What are you most proud of in your career so far?
I’ve been really fortunate to work in roles that let me help patients directly while also building programs that reach the whole community. For 8 years, I served as an adjunct faculty member at the UT College of Pharmacy, mentoring students and teaching in the Primary Care course. It’s rewarding to help shape the next generation of pharmacists.

What’s life like outside of work?
My wife teaches at Carpenter Middle School, and we have three kids — two boys, ages 10 and 8, and a little girl who’s 3. A lot of my free time revolves around coaching their baseball and basketball teams. As a family, we love the outdoors — camping, spending time at the lake in the summer, and skiing in the winter. I’m also active in our church, Fairview, which keeps me grounded and connected to the community.

Any hobbies you’re especially passionate about?
Fly fishing, without a doubt. There’s something peaceful and humbling about standing in a river, surrounded by God’s creation. It’s my way to slow down, recharge, and really appreciate life’s blessings.

If you could recommend one product to everyone, what would it be?
Magnesium glycinate. Our soil doesn’t have as much magnesium as it used to, so most people are deficient without even realizing it. It’s great for sleep, helps with anxiety, and relieves muscle cramps.

What’s one service you think every patient should know about at Mac’s?
Our medication packaging service. Honestly, it’s a game-changer. The number one reason people end up moving out of their homes is poor medication management — missed doses, taking the wrong pill, or just getting overwhelmed. With packaging, every dose is organized and clearly labeled. It removes the guesswork, reduces hospital visits, and most importantly, helps people stay independent in their own homes longer. I’ve seen firsthand how this service can give patients confidence and give families peace of mind.

💥Employee Spotlight: Jerry Sullivan 💥

Meet Jerry Sullivan — a hometown staple and a key member of the Mac’s Pharmacy family for the past eight years.

Jerry was born and raised in Townsend, Tennessee, where his parents, Jean and Jerry Sullivan, owned the local Exxon station (The Townsend Shopping Center) for over 50 years. He attended Townsend Elementary, Walland Middle School, and graduated from Heritage High. As the oldest of four boys, Jerry’s family roots run deep in East Tennessee. One of his brothers now lives in Wisconsin, another in Clinton, and the youngest works with Foothills Excavating in Alcoa.

How long have you worked for Mac’s Pharmacy?
I’ve been a Pharmacy Tech for 11 years in total and have spent the last eight with Mac’s Pharmacy. I was actually one of the original team members at City Drug Co. - Maryville before Mike Wilhoit purchased it.

What inspired you to work in pharmacy?
My cousin called one day to talk to my brother about a job opening at City Drug. I happened to answer the phone, and since my brother wasn’t interested — I took a chance. I was ready for a change, and the rest is history.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
My role has evolved a lot over the years. I started as a pharmacy tech and eventually took over our medication sync program. I’ve also worked with all of our retail locations to help mitigate DIR fees. When we opened our Townsend location, I was brought in to lead with my experience and help streamline medication packaging — making it easier and more convenient for our customers.

What advice would you give someone considering a career in pharmacy?
There are no one-time problems in pharmacy. If you solve it once — remember how you did it! That applies to everything from insurance claims to feeding paper into the robot.

What do you do in your free time?
I’ve been married to my amazing wife Melissa for 15 years. She’s a radiation therapist at Thompson Proton . We have two daughters: Stormie (26), who lives in Johnson City and trains safety dogs, and Claudia (21), a vet tech at Embassy. Music is a big part of my life. I’ve been in bands for over 20 years. Currently, I play keyboard and sing in a band called High School Reunion. We rehearse weekly and play all over — last Friday we were at Bluetick Tavernand last Saturday we played at The Burgers - Lenoir City. We cover ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s music — everything from The Weeknd and Janis Joplin to Elton John. My favorite song to perform is Don’t Stop Believin’ — it gets the crowd going every time.I also play piano at Green Meadows United Methodist Church and DJ weddings on the side.

What’s one product you’d recommend from Mac’s Pharmacy?
I’d have to go with the nicotine patches. It took me about a year, but with patience and persistence, I finally kicked the habit. They made a big difference.

This year, Mac's LTC Pharmacy Solutions was proud to take part in a special way: each honoree received a single, beautiful rose from our team. 📣EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Meet Dylan Loland, Pharmacy Tech @ Mac's Pharmacy - Townsend https://www.macspharmacy.com/blog/dylanloland/🤩

Q:How long have you worked with Mac’s Hometown Pharmacies?

A: I joined the team at Mac’s Townsend in November of last year. I moved back from Florida in 2023 to be closer to my parents, who live in Wears Valley.

Q: What inspired you to work in the pharmacy field, and what do you enjoy most about your role?

A: Before pharmacy, I worked as a FedEx driver, but after a short stint—and one totaled truck—I realized that driving wasn’t the right fit for me. I wanted a career with more purpose, so I transitioned into healthcare. I started as a pharmacy technician at Walgreens, and was eager to experience the contrast between a large pharmacy chain and a community pharmacy. I enjoy helping people get the medications and care they need while learning something new every day.

Q: Can you share a memorable experience you’ve had while working at our pharmacy?

A: There are a lot of memorable moments! Since we’re in a big tourist area, summers are especially busy with visitors who come to hike, bike, and tube. We see plenty of sprained ankles, bug bites, and sunburns, so we stay stocked with first aid kits, ankle bandages, Benadryl, and bug spray. It’s always rewarding to help people enjoy their vacations safely.

Q: What is one piece of advice you would give to someone considering a career in pharmacy?

A: Patience is key. Dealing with insurance can be one of the most frustrating parts of the job—between prior authorizations, coverage issues, and helping patients understand their benefits, there’s a lot of back-and-forth. But if you’re willing to put in the effort and stay patient, it’s a rewarding field where you can make a real difference in people’s lives.

Q: How do you like to spend your time outside of work? What are your hobbies or interests?

A: I love spending time outdoors, especially hiking and biking. Some of my favorite spots include River Rat tubing, and exploring the local Treemont hiking trails. I also enjoy visiting Anakeesta and, when I get the chance, my favorite adventure is whitewater rafting in North Carolina. I also have my Yorkie, Zack, who just turned one in March—he enjoys walks on the townsend bike path.

Q: If you could recommend one product from our pharmacy that you believe everyone should try, what would it be and why?

A: I highly recommend the nausea bands. Drug-Free! No Drowsiness! Suitable for all Ages! AND No Side Effects!! If you’re looking for a natural remedy to combat motion sickness, I highly recommend Sea-Bands. They’re a simple, non-invasive, and drug-free solution that alleviates nausea without causing drowsiness or other side effects. The bands work by applying pressure to the Nei-Kuan (P6) acupressure point on your wrist, a method that’s been clinically proven to help relieve nausea and vomiting.
