This year, two valued Billings Clinic Broadwater physicians will be moving on to new chapters. Dr. Hess will transition away from his clinical practice at the end of this month (August), and Dr. Hoffman will also be departing before the end of the year. While we will miss them greatly, we are so thankful for the care and commitment they’ve given to our patients and community. We’re also excited to share that Dr. Paul Engstrom has been named Medical Director! Recruitment is already underway – supported by Billings Clinic – to welcome a new full-time physician. Our commitment to providing the same compassionate, high-quality care you count on isn’t changing.

After spending time in the Billings Clinic ICU, Griz is now back on his bike and back to doing what he loves most. In late April, Kenneth Taylor, a Harley-Davidson mechanic and motorcyclist suffered a severe heart attack that left him unconscious for six days.

Our team participated in a wide array of activities designed to brush up on essential skills and knowledge for our Annual Skills Day. The training covered critical areas, from fundamental patient care to emergency preparedness and specialized department procedures.
Key training components included:
• Core Clinical Skills:
o Handwashing: Reinforcing this fundamental infection control practice.
o Fall Prevention: Strategies and techniques to ensure patient safety.
o Stroke Education: Enhancing recognition and response to stroke symptoms.
o Food Consistency for Swallow Precautions: Learning about appropriate food textures for patients with dysphagia.
• Emergency Preparedness & Teamwork:
o Mock Code & Crash Cart Olympics: Practicing rapid response and efficient use of emergency equipment in high-pressure situations.
o Escape Room (Simulated Earthquake): A collaborative exercise to foster teamwork and problem-solving during a simulated disaster.
o Emergency Room Scavenger Hunt: Familiarizing staff with the layout and resources within the ER in an interactive way.
• Safety & Equipment Use:
o Proper Patient Lifting & Safe Use of Patient Lifts: Ensuring staff can move patients safely while preventing injuries.
• Interdepartmental Collaboration & Best Practices:
o Lab Blood Tube Labeling: The lab team provided a refresher on accurate blood sample labeling.
o Radiology Scan Education: Radiology staff clarified different scan types and advised on what not to wear during scans.
This diverse range of activities seems to have provided a well-rounded and interactive learning experience for all of our staff!
