Welcome back to our What is it Wednesday Series! Today we talk about: Hallucinogens. Hallucinogens are a diverse group of drugs that alter perception (awareness of surrounding objects and conditions), thoughts, and feelings. They cause hallucinations, or sensations and images that seem real though they are not. Since there is a growing amount of Hallucinogen misuse, it helps to educate ourselves on this type of drug and its effects (short-term AND long-term).

Check out the link below to learn more about Hallucinogens and available resources regarding misuse.

Today we're celebrating 4/20 with a post on why this "holiday" was established and how you can reclaim the day as your own. Although the history remains unclear, swipe through to learn the main theories of how 4/20 became a day of celebration in cannabis culture.

Instead of using cannabis today, we encourage you to take back the day for yourself by doing something to support your wellness. One way to do this is by taking a "T-Break".
Check out http://ow.ly/zq3E50ILzHt for a guide to help support you on a cannabis tolerance break.

If you do choose to celebrate with cannabis today, remember to use safely and reduce your risk of harm.

Like many other substances, alcohol can inhibit a person's physical and mental abilities. In the context of sexual assault, this means that alcohol may make it easier for a perpetrator to commit a crime and can even prevent someone from remembering that the assault occurred.

April is both Sexual Assault Awareness Month as well as Alcohol Awareness month so we want to provide some strategies to help you feel more safe when drinking.

You can take the following steps to increase your safety in situations where drinking may be involved. These tips can help you feel more safe and may reduce the risk of something happening. Though it is best to stay safe while under the influence of alcohol, itโ€™s important to remember that sexual assault is never the victimโ€™s fault, regardless of whether they were sober or under the influence of drugs or alcohol when it occurred.

Did you know that 75% of college students have never misused a prescription medication?

Misuse includes taking more medication than is instructed, taking medication for a different reason than instructed, or sharing or taking someone else's medication.

If you are prescribed a medication, it is best to keep that information to yourself or only tell trusted friends and family. Store the medication is safe, lockable places. It is possible that someone may ask to have some of your prescription if they discover you have it. If this happens, it helps to have already practiced saying no:

-Give a reason: "it's illegal, it's a felony, I don't have much left and I need it myself"
-Simply say no and leave the situation quickly
-Suggest an alternative: "Taking a prescription that isn't yours can have serious side effects. If you need help studying, I would be happy to go to the library with you or go to office hours."

Swipe to learn some on-campus resources for your support. To learn more about ways to say "no" contact us at atod@towson.edu
