Craving something sweet?

It doesn’t have to be candy. Try this recipe for frozen yogurt bark.
If you are going to eat sugar, it might as well come with some added benefit.
Pick a yogurt you like. (I love, love Cabot vanllla. Full fat is amazing, but fine, you can go low). It could be plain and greek, which packs a great deal of protein. Yo can leave it plain or add a sweetener like honey.
Toppings can be berries, nuts, seeds, chocolate, anything really. Kiddies can make their oen versions. Usually that increases the chances of them actually eating it. They made it!
Make a whole cookie sheet and keep in the freezer.

Being overweight and obese is one on the worst things you can to to your body. It affects everything. Immunesystem, gut flora, hormones, mood....
We have come a long way in our understanding of diet and nutrition and how it affects our health and well being. Even so, Americans still are gaining weight.
I have my theory and ideas on why this is.

Female athletes have gotten very little attention when it comes to research and they were treated like smaller ”males” for a long time in terms of nutritional recommendations. It’s fun to find articles that focus on the female as an actual woman since we naturally are very differently made from men and our needs are very different. Even better when it’s involving simple stuff like this:

A UM study finds diverse diet as effective as sports supplements for female athletes

A recently released study from the University of Montana has discovered that common “edge,” sports nutrition products, are no more effective at promoting recovery in female athletes as regular, carbohydrate-rich, often less-expensive potato-based foods.

“Endurance athletes love to talk about how hard they train and how special their diet is. But we need to take a deep breath. It doesn’t have to be complicated. As long as you are getting adequate carbohydrates, your diet can be as diverse as you want it to be.”

Easter leftovers? Make it a wrap!

I know some of us are sensitive to the cabbage family. If eaten raw, you will likely not experience any digestive problems but still reap many of the nutritional benefits from this cruciferous vegetable. Eaten raw, only part of it will be digested and the rest will provide good bulk for an internal cleanse. Once you cook it, the fiber gets broken down and could cause bloating snd discomfort.

I filled two large leaves with shrimp (you can use tuna or salmon as well), 1 egg, shredded red cabbage, shredded Brussels sprouts, and 1/3 of an avocado (I used some cubed papaya as well for some sweetness) and topped it off with a mustard aioli. 25g of great protein in less than 350calories!

After years and years of preparation, I mean really preparing, I have finally found what works for my family.
I used to set up breakfast, make lunches, have snacks in bags, waterbottles in the fridge on days I had to work but the kids stay home. Even with my husband around I would rather take the time to prepare healthy food than risking having them pig through the not so healthy stuff.
The result was almost always the same. I would come home to uneaten veggies and egg sandwiches and spend the evening making the kids pick up their snack wrappers😩.

I decided to skip it all and simply make sure I have enough good stuff on hand and write a list of possible meals they can make, using this good stuff. I taped it to the fridge.
My kids knows what ”good for you food” is. We call it ”living food.” As supposed to dead, I guess...

They know how it pleases me when they pick living over dead😆.

They have now gone through my list of food ideas everyday this week and pride themselves in calling me at work to let me know what they had! If a ”dead food” slips in here and there, I’m ok with that!
