The Drug Price Negotiation Program as it is currently designed is doomed to fail, according to Douglas Hoey, CEO of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). In a recent commentary, Hoey discusses how the program exposes independent to significant financial risk and could force many of them out of business.

NCPA has released a first-of-its-kind analysis by 3 Axis Advisors concluding that under the Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program, pharmacies face lost revenue and significant disruption in cash flow — without adequate protection to help absorb these changes. Accordingly, we strongly urge the new administration and Congress to immediately freeze implementation until robust safeguards are in place to protect both pharmacies’ financial viability and seniors’ access to essential medications.
