The elderly are more susceptible to the cold than the younger generations and it could put them at risk of hypothermia, pneumonia, frostbite and other cold-related illnesses.

These four tips can help protect them from the cold:
✅ Wear multiple layers
✅ Wear appropriate cold weather clothing (gloves, socks, shoes)
✅ Contact your local health department for information on freezing weather shelters and warming centers near you

🤧 Using respiratory etiquette (cough and sneeze into a tissue or arm/elbow)
😷 Wearing a mask when in crowded, enclosed, or poorly ventilated areas

🚨The Baltimore County Freezing Weather Shelter locations have been extended through December 12. Beds will be available starting at 6 pm December 5 through Friday December 12 at 9 am. 🚨

Residents in need of shelter to avoid inclement weather and extreme cold conditions should be directed to the Eastern Family Resource Center at 9150 Franklin Square Drive, Rosedale, MD 21237; Hannah More Family Shelter at 12041 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, MD 21136 or Westside Men's Shelter at 309 Redwood Circle, Catonsville, MD 21228.

County residents seeking temporary Emergency Shelter from freezing temperatures are encouraged to call Baltimore County Department of Social Services' Coordinated Entry Hotline at 410-887-TIME (8463) to register each night the Freezing Weather Shelter Plan is activated.
