We are so happy to announce that our Caregiver of the Month for September 2025 is Rebecca Okwor! Rebecca is a kind, dependable, and hard-working Caregiver who is always willing to help when needed. Her clients truly love and appreciate her, often sharing how much her care and presence mean to them. Over the past year, Rebecca has shown incredible strength and dedication, continuing to support her clients with compassion and reliability. Her commitment to caregiving has never wavered, and we are so grateful to have her on our Avila team!

Thanks very much to the wonderful team at Heritage Harbour, Annapolis: The Ideal Place to Retire for inviting Avila Home Care to have an information table at their annual Health Fair! Avila's CEO Will Cox, Maria Geronimo (Anne Arundel Regional Manager), and Avila's fantastic new Business Developer in Annapolis, Emalie Crawford had a fantastic time meeting residents and their friends and family, as well as many seniors from the greater community. We look forward to next year :-)!

Hooray for Avila's Gabby McNeill who has been promoted to Senior Care Coordinator! Gabby works with a good number of Avila's clients, filling shifts for them quickly and efficiently, while most importantly making thoughtful matches that serve our clients well. Gabby consistently pitches in wherever she's needed, and she is a trusted mentor for Avila's other Care Coordinators. Please join us in congratulating Gabby on this well-deserved promotion. She has truly earned it, and we are very proud to have her as part of our Avila team!

Congratulations to Avila's wonderful Senior Living Community partners for celebrating a fabulous National Assisted Living week! As part of the celebrations, Avila Art Makers hosted an Artist Talk by Gretchen Maneval, whose post-impressionist oil paintings are currently exhibited at Brightview Senior Living Hunt Valley. We enjoyed reconnecting with many of the residents who have also joined us for Avila Music Makers' classical and jazz concerts at Brightview Hunt Valley over the last year. In the audience was a fellow Urban Planner (Gretchen and he talked a lot of "shop" after the show!), as well as an avid art collector who resides at Brightview Hunt Valley, and has enthusiastically requested to exhibit pieces in her collection with Avila Art Makers in honor of her upcoming 90th birthday! We also had a ball this week visiting with Brightview Senior Living Mays Chapel Ridge residents and staff for their lovely Resident Art Show! We met two native New Yorkers at the show, one of whom was a Julliard graduate in dance and had her own dance studio in Maryland for 40 years (check out the video of her dancing at the end of the photos in this post!) The Brightview Mays Chapel Ridge Resident Art Show was also a successful fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Maryland Chapter! This week we also worked with Avila's partners Brightwood Club Association and Springwell Senior Living Community, as well as Blakehurst Senior Living, to plan our upcoming art exhibits and musical concerts for their residents. We applaud the more than 30 Senior Living Communities in the Baltimore and Annapolis area where Avila provides personal and companion care for residents, including those communities who graciously host Avila's art and musical programming- thank you for your devotion to thriving, vibrant and nurturing communities for your residents!

Avila Home Care client Dolores Andrew is an incredible artist, and we're thrilled to announce that she's agreed to exhibit her work with Avila Art Makers at 9 senior living communities in Baltimore and Annapolis! We met with Dolores and her son this morning at the beautiful Oak Crest Senior Living, and we talked all about her trip to Italy where she wrote a book about Italian Renaissance Textile Designs (she's currently writing a new book about the use of color in art). We also learned about her time as a student and teacher at the Maryland Institute College of Art, as a teacher at the Rehoboth Art League, a demonstrator with the Maryland State Fair for 25 years, and her exhibits at the Baltimore County Department of Aging's Power of Aging Expo (her watercolor of magnolias won 1st place last year!) Dolores' creativity is expressed through pastels, oil paint, pen and ink, embroidery, contour drawings, scratchboard and quilting- and she is quite prolific in each medium- what an inspiration she is! Happy 100th Birthday to Millicent Kelly at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Ruxton! We were so honored to celebrate Miss Millie's birthday with her, and we are in awe of her pioneering and world famous work as a nutritionist combatting autism through her work at The Johns Hopkins Hospital advocating for the Ketogenic Diet- check out this Dateline NBC about Miss Millie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma5t4ClKZSU)! During her birthday party, Avila Music Makers' wonderful jazz musicians Ed Hrybyk Music and Aaron Hill absolutely delighted Autumn Lake residents, staff, family and friends! Miss Millie received honors from the Baltimore County Executive (Baltimore County Government), and the Maryland Senate and House of Delegates. Miss Millie's grace, kindness and her extraordinary contributions to medicine are incredible- thank you for your decades of service, Miss Millie, and to the Autumn Lake community for including Avila in your wonderful celebration!

Jestina was selected for her reliability, strong work ethic, and deep knowledge of care practices. She consistently shows perseverance, especially when working with complex or challenging cases, and remains calm and steady under pressure. Her dependability and professionalism make her a truly valued member of the Avila team. Avila Nurse Debbie Foreman shares, "Jestina is a hardworking, conscientious, gentle-spirited caregiver who is adaptable to a client’s changing needs. She is dependable and cares for the whole person—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She is fully present when with her clients." Avila is delighted to share a thank you message, and also travel photos, from Jerry and Linda, who have celebrated with us at Avila's Senior Citizens' Prom at Loyola Blakefield school for the last 3 years! We hope to see you all at our Senior Citizens' Prom in April, 2026! "Hi Gretchen, A wonderful surprise arrived yesterday. It was our Senior Prom picture in an envelope from you. And, it was framed. Avila really knows how to do things with top quality detail. Linda and I appreciate being able to participate in the Senior Prom. We had a fantastic time meeting fellow seniors, experiencing the maturity of the Loyola boys interacting with everyone, dancing to the music, and enjoying the upscale sandwiches. We have not been able to stop talking about our memorable experience with our friends. So this seems to be our cruise year. Earlier this year, we cruised from Cape Town to Lisbon.
