What an incredible turnout for Avila Home Care's Dementia Training at GBMC last week with Gilchrist! Thank you to Avila's Director of Nursing, Betsey Pierce, for her leadership and wonderful work with Avila's partners, Gilchrist Cares and GBMC - Greater Baltimore Medical Center, ensuring that Avila’s Caregivers are well prepared to support our Memory Care clients. Avila's CEO Will Cox warmly welcomed the over 50 Avila Caregivers with his 1940's Trivia (the most common birth decade of Avila's clients), and thanked them for their dedication to their clients, and letting them know how much we appreciate them all. Abundant thanks to everyone on Avila's team who helped with the delicious food, checking-in trainees and participating in the training! We are grateful for Avila's partnership with Gilchrist and GBMC- congratulations to everyone on a job well done!

Hooray for Avila's wonderful partner Springwell Senior Living Community! Springwell's residents and staff graciously hosted two 4th of July-themed events yesterday to kick-off Avila's new "Thrive with Avila" programming for senior living communities. In addition to the incredible Home Care that Avila provides to our 250 clients in 30 local senior living communities and in their own homes, for the last two years, Avila has also been bringing extraordinary arts and musical programming into these communities through Avila Art Makers art exhibits, artist talks and demonstrations (https://avilahomecare.com/avila-art-makers/), and Avila Music Makers concerts (https://avilahomecare.com/concert-series/). As Avila looks to expand our quality of life programming, called "Thrive with Avila", the Leadership Team at Springwell offered to host brainstorming sessions with their residents so that we could learn from them what types of activities they feel are the most fun and engaging, and where they get to learn and discover. Springwell's residents had fantastic ideas for games where they could also learn about health, aging, technology, history and culture. They also expressed a keen interest in telling stories about their lives, and having these stories recorded for their families and future generations. The residents also praised the Avila Art Makers and Avila Music Makers series and asked for more, and said they'd love to host our Avila Adventure travel talks featuring photographs, videos and artifacts from far away places. Avila's Nurse Hillary Fleming, along with Avila's Director of External Affairs Gretchen Maneval, lead the groups in fun 4th of July trivia- prizes included stuffies and balloons, and the residents LOVED the red, white and blue star cookies as a treat! Thanks so very much to Springwell residents and staff for helping Avila create an impactful and robust menu of quality of life programming, which we can share with over 60 senior living communities in the Baltimore and Annapolis regions where Avila serves our home care clients!

We are excited to announce that Avila has selected TWO exceptional Caregivers of the Month for June 2025- Jane Dameron and Shameka Henson- we just couldn't decide which one to choose as both are so extraordinary! Jane's dedication, kindness and compassionate spirit has made a lasting impact on all of her clients and their families. Jane epitomizes great caregiving, supporting her clients' personal care needs, and also providing deep companionship. Caregiver Shameka Henson brings patience, strength, and warmth to every client. We are fortunate to have Shameka leading with heart, and exemplifying what exceptional caregiving looks like. We especially recognize both Jane and Shameka for their dedication with their shared long-time client, to whom they became like family. Their long-time client often shared how much she admired them, and that she truly thought the world of them. We thank Jane and Shameka for being an incredible part of Avila's Caregiving team. What an absolutely wonderful Artist Talk we hosted yesterday afternoon at Brightview Senior Living Severna Park with Avila Art Makers' Impressionist Oil Painter, Mary Swann! Mary's inspiring paintings make you want to jump right into them- the beautiful light and air in her bucolic scenes perfectly capture the rapturous feelings of springtime, the hazy brooding days of Maryland summers, and the cool crispness of Fall days. Brightview's residents and staff were thrilled with the opportunity to learn about Mary's paintings, and to talk with her about her painting technique. One of the residents was so enamored with Mary's painting of cherry blossoms, that she purchased the painting on the spot and carried it back to her room in her walker- excitedly telling us that she was going to share the painting with all her friends at the dinner table that evening! Thank you to the staff and residents of Brightview Senior Living Severna Park for so warmly welcoming Mary and all of our Avila Art Makers!

CONGRATULATIONS and Thank You to Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing, Charter Senior Living of Towson and Charter The Cottages of Perry Hall for an incredible Bougie Bag Bingo fundraising event last evening to benefit the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Maryland Chapter's Longest Day campaign! Avila's Gretchen Maneval had a blast calling the bingo, and celebrating Mr. Jones' 93rd birthday! The winner of Avila's lovely donated pastel blue Calvin Klein Bougie Bag was absolutely delighted, and our Avila tote bags were in high demand from all the guests who didn’t win a Bougie Bag :-). Also a huge THANK YOU to Brightview Senior Living at Severna Park for inviting us to donate a bag and participate in their Bougie Bag Bingo last week! How lucky we are to revel in the joy and kindness of the staff, residents and families of these amazing senior living communities. Thank you all for taking this journey of service with us- it's the greatest gift to see all the seniors laugh and smile!

Happy 100th Birthday to Avila's wonderful client Edith! Edith's family got her a suite to see a Baltimore Orioles game and celebrate her birthday, and they had an absolutely fantastic time! We love this adorable photo of Edith and the Bird :-)!!

What an exciting week! A BIG THANK YOU to the staff and residents of Brightwood Club Association, Springwell Senior Living Community, Brightview Senior Living Severna Park, Brightview Senior Living Annapolis, Brightview Senior Living Hunt Valley, Brightview Senior Living South River, Blakehurst Senior Living and Autumn Lake Healthcare at Ruxton for hosting our Avila Art Maker's (AAM) exhibits! What fun we had this week taking down previous AAM art exhibits, and hanging new exhibits up in their place at the senior living communities! From impressionist to modern art, watercolor paintings to oil and acrylic, residents and staff absolutely raved about the artwork :-)! It was wonderful having the chance to learn from the residents what they've loved about our Avila Art Maker's exhibits, and about their experiences with visual art. These senior living communities are looking forward to our Avila Art Makers Artists giving talks about their paintings, as well as sharing their education and experiences as artists.
