Hey folks,

We are excited to announce the 7th Goucher College Community Emergency Response Team (GCCERT) class! The class is FREE and open to ALL community members (students, staff, and faculty). No experience is necessary and the certification is transferable to any FEMA recognized CERT team in the nation. Graduates of this program may qualify to become members of the Goucher College Community Emergency Response Team.

What is CERT?
CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

When is the class?
The two-part class is on the following days:
Saturday, September 21st, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, September 28th, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
You must be able to attend both days (please email David.Heffer@Goucher.edu if you are interested but cannot attend both days).

What does class entail?
The class will cover topics like disaster preparedness, fire safety and suppression, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, and crowd management. Goucher CERT will also address specific hazards relevant to Goucher College so that impacts can be mitigated. The final day will be a disaster simulation drill where you will put all of your training to use!

AND FURTHER BENEFITS OF BEING A CERT MEMBER ;)
For people who complete the CERT class and decides to become a CERT Member, you will have the opportunity of having further training/certifications such as CPR, Civilian Response to Active Shooter, Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings, and Self-Defense classes. If you have suggestions for other training, I am more than happy to listen to you and create more training opportunities!

The Goucher College Community Emergency Response team was founded in early 2016 by the Office of Public Safety at Goucher College. The group has grown since then to encompass more than 50 active community members. These members attend an initial 20/hr CERT member certification course (offered once a semester), which covers topics like disaster response, first aid, search and rescue, terrorism, and ICS. After attending this course, members have the chance to take advanced courses on active shooter preparedness, Terrorism Response, CPR/AED, and more. These members serve the community by assisting with campus fire drills, as well as assisting with responding to weather, structural, and manmade disasters on campus. The CERT Team is managed by a Committee, which is headed by two Vice Presidents and two Presidents, and report directly to the Director of Public Safety. Anyone who is interested in joining is encouraged to contact us for more information!
